I don’t get this desperation for a striker- the reason for our misfiring so far this season has had more to do with our defence.  I’d rather we signed a couple of solid full-backs than a striker.

Weiman is doing ok and Fam will be available soon - I’d say we are ok up front.

Only my opinion of course.

We’ve signed two full backs. How many do we need?

Maenepaa hasn't let anyone down tbh.

However yeah we are short in many areas- partly because of a fairly high number of early season injuries and a joke of a ban.

Anyone else notice he’s traveling up with the squad today?

And more to the point, our team is now travelling standard class on the train?

Don't think I've ever seen City use the train before, see it all the time with other clubs when travelling out of London to City matches in the North, and certainly always in first class. But standard class? Bit odd.

Was surprised by this too. Budget cuts everywhere this season ?

That looks like First Class to me.

The seats in Standard are lighter grey.

I think , knowing Duric wanted out , Bobby gone , and Eisa a punt , for the future in all likelihood

I think we should have been looking for another striker to seriously compete with FD and AW

Weve faffed around with Matt Taylor and I can only assume that Lee and the coaching team rate him more than many of us and believe he’s a decent third striker (I don’t see it)

IMHO we should have been decisive and offloaded Taylor in summer if we could (Possibly not too easy if he is in £16k a week) and replaced him as the third striker option with better quality

Growing fears for us this season and if we maintain our place I think we will be looking back on the last window and saying ‘Thank ***** we signed Weimann’ (Excellent buy)

He's on a lot less than that on on FM if that is anything to go by ...

Nope - definitely standard class mate. I hate to sound like a train nerd but I travel on GWR enough to get back to AG.

One for @Never to the dark side but first class only ever has three seats across the width of the carriage. Plus that photo is on the new Hitachi trains, first class seats have a large burgundy head rest, the bright green strip on the wall is in standard class. ?

Only winners get the coach.

Till we notch three points; enjoy economy class, lads.

Looking again, you’re right.

Good call.

I wonder if they’ll be travelling back on the 23:30 all pissed up and stuffing their faces with a Burger King?

Don’t expect a third striker to playing too much over the course of the season. Look at the teams who you’d expect to be in the middle of the championship. Who were their third choice strikers last season and how many goals did they get? Looking at a few teams it ranges from 4-7 mostly. I think Weimann and diedhiou will both hit double figures comfortably.

Eisa might rack up 20+ appearances if he’s lucky. I think he’ll chip in with a fair few goals.

Massive ask to be a third choice championship striker? Regardless of where he was 18 months ago last season he was a ridiculously efficient league 2 striker. Would rather him than Taylor off the bench right now.

That’s not the point though Shtanley

Simple q - Is he good enough to start in Championship atm

Preferring him over Taylor (And I’d agree right atm) doesn’t mean he’s ready for this level

Weimann and Famara might well hit double figures (And Remember we’ve somewhere around 30 odd goals to make up)

..............as long as they both avoid injury or suspension

To ‘assume’ your third striker won’t start many games is Russian Roulette IMHO

I think Đurić is a red-herring in all of these threads.

It was clear for a while that his heart was in Italy (his Instagram account showed very little of happy life in Bristol). Fair enough, not everyone settles in a new country. Engvall was probably the same and we seem to have learnt the hard way that overseas players aren't always bargains.

But, we paid Đurić through two operations and two recoveries. And from the 14th July onwards we clearly needed another option for the games when Diedhiou was going to be missing.

Even the worst strategist wouldn't let go of a useful asset at a considerable loss when we had been patient for 18 months to see him at his best.

More likely, the medical staff at the club took a view that he wasn't going to meet the rigours of the Championship and playing him would risk another injury or injuries.

With an offer from Italy it was a case of recovering some of the transfer outlay.

Proof will be that if he can't stay fit for Salernitana then we've made a good decision to sell him.

None of the above means we shouldn't have made plans for covering Fam's absence. We're expecting too much of our recognised strikers while waiting for the main man to return.

The players are travelling on the day too, no hotel bills. When did we last do that? Cotterill used to leave on Thursdays for a Saturday match which the players wanted changed as soon as he departed, this is certainly different tactics.

I guess a coach is being driven up with all the kits etc they take, unless Scotty can squeeze it all into his van:laugh:

I was thinking that, I know he came for more money but wouldn't that make him one of our highest earners?

I would have expected it to be more like half that figure in reality.

If he is on £16k per week the game has utterly utterly gone!

( BTW I don't think he will be on half of that given where he came from)

Apparently there were some very pxxsed off passengers on that train.........all of the luggage spaces at the end of each carriage were taken up by BCFC hampers!

Have been saying we need someone to compete with Fam. We have no specialist strikers up for the championship outside of him. Eisa needs time and Taylor not up to it. Everyone can adapt to another position be it Weimann or Pato on the wing in a 433. Weimann, Watkins or Pato next to Fam in a 442. If Diedhiou is injured or suspended again we have no options. We need another platform type player to compete/spell him. Does not have to be a 6’3 target man but anyone who can compete physically with champ CBs. Otherwise we will be hoping Eisa makes the step up very quickly which would be unfair

would be a start if Eisa was actually given a chance, ideal time Saturday to at least see what he brings to the table, can't understand why we bought him otherwise, why not start him it might do his confidence the world of good.

Agree. He should be used more than Taylor. Should be getting every chance to prove himself. Shown a hunger to make it at L2 level and will be working hard again.
