And LJ also said to MA “don’t tell Derby we want him to play him as a striker”.

I think that was two-fold:

  1. strikers costs more than wide-men typically
  2. would've put Derby off of the scent re Marriott

Pre emptive move if LJ did instruct MA not to say what position City wanted him for.

Im not sure that’s right  tho as Derby would have see Wiemann as an asset to move on and a) where he went b) what position he was wanted for was of no consequence to them. Like all clubs they’d have been wanting the revenue.

LJ said this last week.

Disagree....MA will be trying to drive down the price, Derby will be trying to push it up.  Remember LJ saying he was trying to build a team around Tomlin to push up the price with Cardiff’s interest.  Quite possible MA might’ve said £x is a lot of money for his goal record, etc.

It has to be an element of both, we've converted 2 players from different positions to strikers, we've recruited someone who hadn't played an adult league game and one who had barely scored at his last few clubs. We do well to identify those who fit into our system and have created a system that gives strikers the chance to score as we've recruited those who will be in the right position/fit the system.

I guess like any financial negotiations both parties bluff and counter bluff. The main skill in negotiating  is knowing when the other party if bluffing, based no doubt on what you would do in their position. MA is apparently very good at it, having plenty of experience in that field.
