All things Bristol Bears

There aren't many club sides in the northern hemisphere at least that wouldn't want to employ Lam if the opportunity arose. He's been lucky to be backed by huge investment at Bristol, but splashing the cash didn't help them much before. Anyone who can win a league title with Connacht has a lot going for them. Bristol are very lucky to have someone of his calibre. I think that he might have been coaching Ireland by now if he'd stayed in Galway.

See that Bath have are the only team not having their game scheduled for next week moved back.  Gives them the opportunity to go full strength for both games whereas everyone else has a 4  day turnaround...

Looking at the remaining games, going to be 4 from the top 5 that qualify, and it certainly looks favourable for Bristol.

I can see Bath losing both games, especially against Saracens. Bristol will win both, Wasps will lost to Exeter.

Second place will literally come down to who can get the most bonus points between Bristol and Wasps

BATH

Home to Gloucester  - Tuesday 22nd September

Away to Saracens  - Sunday 4th October

BRISTOL

Home to Leicester - Wednesday 30th September

Away to London Irish - Sunday 4th October

EXETER

Home to London Irish  - Wednesday 30th September

Away to Wasps  - Sunday 4th October

SALE

Away to Northampton - Tuesday 29th September

Home to Worcester  - Sunday 4th October

WASPS

Away to Harlequins - Monday 28th September

Home to Exeter - Sunday 4th October

I don't understand this whole "throwing results" with a shit team selection. Obviously the world class coach has not built a good enough squad

This is what happens when you don't rest and rotate your squad.....

Northampton's injury crisis could turn Sunday's Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final against Exeter into a farce.

Saints currently have only one fit loose-head prop in the form of 19-year-old rookie Emmanuel Iyogun.

It means the prospect of uncontested scrums and playing with 14 men unless European Cup organisers allow them to sign another prop this week.

Tournament regulations do not permit a new signing at this point.

The club have been badly hit by injury in the front row since the season's restart, with Danny Hobbs-Awoyemi suffering a serious Achilles injury against Bristol last week, while Nick Auterac was also forced off in the same game.

Francois van Wyk hobbled off against Leicester on Sunday, and the experienced Alex Waller is another injury casualty.

Scotland prop Gordon Reid was signed by the club in March, but his deal expired at the end of June.

Under tournament rules, the 16 clubs who have qualified for the quarter-finals in the Champions Cup and Challenge Cups were required to register their squads on or before 1 September.

EPCR have reiterated that the regulations do not allow any further registration of players, leaving Northampton travelling to Sandy Park seriously light on resources.

It is thought none of their tight-head props are able to play on the other side of the scrum, meaning Iyogun must stay on for the whole game otherwise Northampton will be unable to scrummage competitively.

This would result in uncontested scrums with the Saints then forced to sacrifice a player.

"This week we'll have some work to do to find a fit team to put out on to the field," director of rugby Chris Boyd said on Sunday.

"In some positions we're getting down pretty thin."

What a ridiculous game rugby is. I'm not a fan so know nothing , but surely someone from the squad could fill in ? And, if someone gets injured, don't they have to forgo that specialist position ?  It's like a keeper gets sent off and no one else is allowed between the sticks , because it's a "special" position !

You can't have a non front-rower at prop or hooker in the professional game. It would be extremely dangerous and is rightly not allowed.

As for the comparison with replacing a goalkeeper with an outfield player, when goalkeepers have to start scrummaging you might have a point. As it is, you might as well compare peas and oranges while you're at it.

The Bears training kit, on the whole is vile, I noticed on Twitter Kyle Sinckler wearing a t shirt that looked good, alas, I can’t see it for sale on the Bristol Sport Store. I like what Hummel have done for us so far, a bit disappointed that it’s quite so costly though.

Still a load of prima-donnas, if you ask me .   :laughcont:

Bristol Bears are pleased to be confirmed as the host club selected by DCMS to act as a pilot for Premiership Rugby, with supporters able to attend the fixture against Leicester Tigers on Wednesday, September 30th (5.30pm KO).

Premiership Rugby has today announced that supporters will be allowed to attend two more Gallagher Premiership Rugby matches, after the success of this week’s 'pilot' at Kingsholm when 1,000 supporters saw Gloucester Rugby host Harlequins.

The fixtures are part of the series of test events the government has approved to pilot the safe return of spectators, adhering to social distancing measures.

The matches are:
Sept 22nd - Bath Rugby v Gloucester Rugby: The Recreation Ground
Sept 30th - Bristol Bears v Leicester Tigers: Ashton Gate

1,000 spectators will be allowed to be admitted to each match, subject to local safety advisory group approval, which are all also live on BT Sport.

The news follows Harlequins hosting Gallagher Premiership Rugby’s first match with spectators on 5 September, against Bath Rugby, following the country’s Lockdown earlier this year and the Gloucester Rugby match on Monday night.

Darren Childs, Chief Executive of Premiership Rugby said: “We are delighted that following the success of the first two ‘pilot’ matches at the Twickenham Stoop and Kingsholm, another two Gallagher Premiership Rugby matches have been given the green light from the government. This is testament to the magnificent job done by the teams at both Harlequins and Gloucester Rugby.

“We saw in those matches how important it is for spectators to be present at live sport and we value the trust that the government have placed in us for additional pilot games. The health and safety of everyone involved in Premiership Rugby is our only priority as we bring the sport back from Lockdown and that was evident at Kingsholm and the Twickenham Stoop. We are pleased to be able to look to build on that success.”

Clear guidance, produced in close consultation with the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA), set out the strict measures that test events must follow to limit the spread of Covid-19.

These include:

  • Upholding social distancing in queues;
  • Minimising the risk of any pinch points or crowding;
  • Carefully controlling bookings so that social distancing is observed in seating arrangements;
  • Minimising the numbers of tickets sold to a pre-defined safe capacity, in accordance with regulator guidance;
  • Recording people’s data to assist NHS Test and Trace.

The pilots will be carefully monitored by the DCMS and the Sports Ground Safety Authority to help inform future decisions on further relaxations of the rules and if spectators will be able to return to live sport from October 1.

Just saw the second half, apart from 5-10 minutes of untidy play early on, that was outstanding. Brilliant watch.

Developing more than a passing interest in ‘The Bears’ now. Not just the results, but they play really fluid, expansive, adventurous rugby. Not the traditional bore and grind stuff.

Lets hope that type of exciting game plan transfers to the footie side!

Steve Lansdown’s ‘Bristol Sport’ concept is working, at least in me. Bravo.

Tickets on sale for the Leicester game in 8 days time - given that the game is the day before all further test events are banned, will they still go through with letting the fans in?

Listening to the wording, I'm not sure it is test events that are being postponed

It it the full return of supporters coming back from October that has been postponed
