Been confirmed it's 100% not happening this season. Liked the reply from the RFU where they basically said many of the clubs didn't care before but as 7 of them are in real danger of the drop at the moment they are trying to protect themselves

Self preservation being a very strong instinct!

Bristols excellent start to the season when they should have won at least one more game possibly two and Worcester and Newcastle improvement in the last two seasons really has complicated things for the bigger boys...every one other than Exeter and Saracens really are vulnerable because there's no nailed on bottom three.

C’mon then how bad was Saturday!?

Didn't think it was that bad. Basically a full strength la rochelle side against a not so strong bristol side and we lost 5 tries to 4. Obviously there were some very poor mistakes and stuff to work on but the scoreline didn't reflect the match imo

Does doing well in this competition have any worth for Bristol?

Is it like the Europa League?

Depends how the coach uses the competition.  I think they were thinking we would qualify for the quarter finals quite comfortably.  However, the narrow loss away to Zebre made that less likely.  The side he's picked for Saturday is completely 2nd string.  All English qualified.  La Rochelle were the best side I've seen at Ashton Gate this season. Very brave by Lam.  Obviously using the game to see who will show they're ready to step up whilst ensuring the main players are keyed up for the 3 games over the festive period.

It's exactly like Europa League. 2nd tier competition but the winner goes to the Champions Cup next year. It's only 3 extra games and if we're safe come March/April, one suspects it might be targeted.  The draw was very kind, but the loss at Zebre has made things very difficult.

Massive win for Bristol, one of the biggest we've ever had in Europe.

The defence for the whole 80 minutes was superb, leinster quality. Summed up by Andy uren driving their hooker into touch, absolute quality.

Taje that sort of defence into the next two massive games and we'll be in an excellent place

Hopefully it means rugby gets more popular, more TV/media coverage, more money in the game, more professional leagues (in time), etc... CVC bought Formula 1 a while back and turned a large profit (8 billion pounds?), I think they've been involved with Moto GP too and now Premiership Rugby. Practically, in the short term this would mean all the 13 P share holders (all current clubs plus London Irish) get a chunk of cash up front -something like £20million each- in exchange for sharing the income with CVC who will heavily market the product in this country and elsewhere to make a decent ROI.

Could all go wrong, of course but they're still minority holders so that lessens the risk somewhat. Both codes of rugby deserves to be bigger and this could well be the catalyst that Union needs to push on to greater things.

Good result last night too with Wuss losing 6-32 to Saints. No BPs. I think we can win today against the team with the worst scoring record in the division. Newcastle are 2nd worst and Barf 3rd!

Today’s other fixtures are

Chiefs v. Sarries (irreverent to us!)

Tigers v  Quins (away win please)

Tomorrow it’s

Newcastle v  Glos (away please)

Wasps v  Bath (home please)

If we can do our bit the table could look very good indeed  -  C’mon Bris
