Lack of footballing intelligence

We seem to have absolutely no one in the squad with any real footballing intelligence, which is a shock given our manager is such a forward thinking coach who goes as far as measuring the grass on the pitch!

You would probably say Pack and Paterson are as close as we have which sums it up how bad it is

We have no one that can make things happen. We don’t have a Bannan type player that keeps things moving forward positively.

Yes we all like players who work hard like Taylor but that will only get you so far.

Don’t get me wrong, the players can sometimes put a nice flowing move together which happened at times today. But even when we needed a cool head for the last 10 mins there was no one who could get on the ball and look like they could create that chance we needed.

We seem to just have, well... nothing!

What we are is TOO SOFT!!

1st half Kelly has the chance to break through the middle with Bannan down injured and we stop to kick it out!!

So so soft. No leaders at all in this squad. LJ quoted leaders in the summer and then buys in nice, tippy tappy footballers who arent up for a scrap. Players in a similar mould to our Manager’s playing career i must add!!

I think it’s more naivety than lack of intelligence. We’re definitely a soft touch in midfield but there’s no one to come in and change that. Walsh is a ball player and there’s no one to do the dirty work. That said, sometimes you can’t legislate for individual mistakes. It’s worrying how often we get done by the big direct ball up the middle. Once is an error, more than that is a weakness.

Today was a flashback to the time a few seasons back when bang average teams could turn up here, offer very little and go home with three points. We have a soft underbelly and no real grit or fight. We play our football very much in the image of LJ as a player  who never made a tackle or kicked a player in his life. We seem too content to keep it at all cost without having the penetration or go forward of others. Sheffield Wednesday will be laughing their asses off on the way home tonight.

We miss Reid, even without his goal scoring season, as a midfield player he always had his head up and and brought the ball forward himself ran at players or looked for the forward pass. He only passed back/sideways if nothing was on (it meant he lost possession at times, that the fans slated him for but at least he tried). Currently our midfield are the opposite, looking for the safe side/back pass if it's on, only passing forward only when their seems no safer option.... no real attacking risk being made, just far to cosy and safe (which if it was working fine, but's it's bloody not).
