It’s all a part of SLs ‘stability and sustainability’ ethos Bob and one of those sustainabilities is the stadium becoming as close to self funding as possible.

The up coming concerts is a source of income is one and obviously the stadium catering is another which the  Senior Reds lunches are a small part.

If the profit they make on Senior Reds lunches is impactive on the balance sheet

God help us

They could do it at cost

If they did, the 'mate, give us a quid for a cup of coffee' professional begger economy would die on its arse overnight.

What does a glass of OJ, cheese and lettuce and a bit of Vienetta cost a professional catering outfit? A quid fifty a head maybe.

I am glad I still have 'early death' as my financially sound retirement plan.

The part that doesn't sit well with me is there is a very good chance these people attending would have following City for decades, who knows how much time and money they have invested in that time, I'm just sure this group could be supported better

It doesn’t sit well with many of us Senior Reds but that not to say that we deserve special rates because of all the money we’ve all payed over the decades.

Most of us, me included simply accept that AG is now a corporate animal and we live with it. We’re all too long in the tooth to rock the boat these days.

Fruit juice, cheese or ham salad and ice cream sounds like something you'd order a two year old off the kids menu.

Perhaps they base it on Care Home Menus

Enticing isn’t it.....

Lets hope the corporate offerings are a bit better

Wheres the Michelin star chef who was employed to design the menus ?

Take a shit* on the till.

That will make them take notice.

*by that,  I mean fill in a comments card, or raise your concerns with management and arrange a meeting.

Whilst I agree the menu is a bit lame...What I can't understand is people moaning about the price.

Less than £20 to attend, have a meal, be with like minded fans, socialise in a decent environment, have people serve, be entertained with a guest speaker etc.

You pay as much to go to the cinema today and have a drink and some popcorn.

Or go to a 'Spoons, food optional, drink as per budget and meet similar.

A sensible and balanced  reply Spudski but we’re all City fans and like to complain about just about anything City related.

The menu definitely needs improvement but I can’t see it changing given the financial issues the chefs have to work within. The club is after all trying to generate as much revenue as possible from all revenue streams at AG and obviously catering is one of them.

Still leaves lots of us more senior guys a little disgruntled tho - not that that’ll bother the club.

And yep, CR my first game at AG was in 1967.......age 12......with my schoolmate and his dad........can’t remember much about the game either. Years and years later I looked it up and it was against Oxford and a goalless draw......amazing that I ever went back.

was that the game oxford took the east end.....and im not joking RR just a question

Add in a couple of drinks and it’s close to £30. That would be ok if the food was better than ordinary, but it’s not. As, has been mentioned, fruit juice as a starter and ice cream for pudding is a bit of a joke. There are plenty of restaurants that provide far better lunch time meals for that price.

Indeed there are...but they are open everyday doing that as a business.

The Club are providing an 'occasional', meal and 'entertainment'...allowing like minded people to gather and socialise together under one roof.

Try hiring a similar place, getting food and chef and service, and guest speaker for the same price.

We are not worthy

If you fall into that category, then yes I am.

They didn't "take" the east end - pre segregation in those days and arriving at 1pm when the turnstiles opened about 200 paid , entered and stood at the back above the walkway at the top of the EE. Before any city arrived.

They did , however, as I recall resist efforts to move them!

To be honest the Wiltshire Farm Foods catalogue is far more enticing

But that's the staple diet of the senior reds ....... they can only digest soft bland foods at their age - as it is it's touch and go if they can make it home (to Nailsea?) before they shit themselves.

A sensible chef who knows his customers Imo.

RR asserting his hooligan credentials?

You'll be bringing a book out next!

A suggestion for the opening para:

"........their top boy Gary wanted a meet and I wasn't going to bottle it - I went onto his manor and fronted him up , we went toe to toe but the geezer done me, had to have it away on me toes...  good job the lads weren't there to see it,  Never got over it.... One day I'll have the bastard"

For a short period in the early 70s I witnessed and was on the periphery of episodes of ‘bovver’ and ‘aggro’ at various away games.

I soon grew out of it tho. Got a kicking outside the County Ground and that was about as upsetting as it can get. Add to that I was just about to commence my nurse training and I soon realised that the potential of a professional career wasn’t compatible with getting into fights and ending up with some kind of conviction......

To balance the conversation a little,;

The lunch is held in the very comfortable Heineken Suite with an outstanding view of Ashton Gate.

Very few members have the Fruit Juice starter option which I agree should be  switched to Soup of the day. Don't forget that after lunch Tea or Coffee is included in the price. Most are season ticket holders so buy drinks at discounted rates.

A 3 course lunch with coffee for £17 in a hospitality suite comparable to a 4 star Hotel seems reasonable to me (and the 100 or so Senior Reds who turn up each month to meet up with old friends and listen to a hopefully engaging speaker. Steve Lansdown , LJ and Gregor McGregor have graced us  in recent months to name but a few.

Exactly. Surely the menu has to reflect the seasons too? A fruit juice, salad and ice cream might be refreshing in the Summer but I wouldn’t order it in mid winter.

Maybe people in their 70’s would like more traditional food, Shepard’s pie and crumble would be warming and filling if pensioners are going to spend a big chunk of their food budget on one lunchtime meal.

I’m not suggesting anyone who attends is in financial difficulties, but you do hear about people being forced to chose between eating and heating.

PS/ I’ll do the meal for £10 a head if you can all fit into my house
