Non-League Day (Merged)

Hi all,

Just a quick message to say we are offering half price admission for our match v Clevedon Town on Saturday 13th October to anyone who's a season ticket holder of City, Rovers or Yeovil.

Who's we/our?

Hengrove Athletic, just off the A37 at Whitchurch. Next door to Whitehall Garden Centre if you know it..... back in 2016, we hosted the Bristol City Community Trust game in front of 1,700 spectators. Whacked us 7-0 but the day itself was the most important thing with a few thousand pounds raised for both the Community Trust and ourselves.

Two years on, we now play in the Western League Premier Division, the highest level we've ever reached. Finished 9th last season, the best ever. Most of our players are City fans; one works down there, another's Mum works there etc but they all have one thing in common, they don't get paid. Not unique in local football but there's very few that don't pay even expenses. They're a great bunch of lads playing with their mates and that's it really.

Hard work from the small committee meant we secured some new sponsorship this summer including a re-naming of the ground from Norton Lane to Paprika Park. Big thanks to the guys from Paprika, Gilda Parade in Whitchurch.

Admission to City STH's will be £3 adults, £1.50 concessions and free for under-16's. If it looks like it might pour down, we have two covered stands and a covered terrace. A warm, friendly clubhouse plus enough car parking to cope with all 20k of you coming up to visit.*

Look forward to seeing many of you up at Paprika Park on the 13th, Saturday week.

* - as long as some of you car share.

Be nice for the Rovers fans to see how the other half live!

Also worth pointing out that this weekend is officially Groundhopper Weekend, so if you fancy a little more local footy then this is your opportunity. Games at all different times from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. I note The 'Grove are away to Cribbs at 7.45pm Saturday, so good luck!

Yes indeed, a good point well made. And thanks for the good wishes.

Groundhop Weekend will see seven Western League games in three days at Brislington (Friday); Longwell Green, Clevedon, Hallen and Cribbs (Saturday) and Bridgwater & Bristol Telephones (Sunday). We are the away club this year as we hosted a match last year v Hallen on the same slot as we have this year, 7.45pm on the Saturday.

With Non-League Day this Saturday, and City not playing. My home-town side are offering discounted entry (£3 including a programme) to City season ticket holders (and the Blue Few/Forest Green)

Might be of interest to those in North Bristol. We will go 3rd or 4th with a win, we're doing very well in our first season in the Hellenic League, only losing our opening game in the league. Play good fast attacking football which Malmesbury struggled to cope with last Saturday. We've recently also beat Longlevens in the league above in the GFA cup.

Well we've got the extra programmes on order, there's enough beer in the fridge and the welcome is warming up nicely and should be at peak levels come around 2pm on Saturday, an hour before kickoff.

What I said about if it rains?Meant to hoof it down tomorrow all day and on Saturday but as I rather prophetically mentioned in the OP, we have enough cover for around 150 people or so plus a clubhouse with views across the pitch.

Would be great to see you there if possible. If you're from North Bristol locale, then I can recommend a trip to Thornbury Town who have done a shed load of work to their ground and are doing very nicely thank you in the Hellenic this season.

Big game at the Woodspring today v East Thurrock.

Need that first win.

Been called off now...

Big accident on the M4 causing problems, Stevenage fans caught travelling to Newport. Multiple Hellenic League sides stuck. Blackfield & Langley were playing in the empty carriageway stuck on their way to Yate Town.

Update: Yate Town now 3:30pm KO

Manor Farm 1-0 Paulton

Paulton had their goalkeeper sent off for handball.

But Paulton were good.

Good luck to Manor Farm in the next round. Can't believe we lost that game, even when down to 10 men and with the right winger taking over in goal, and playing into the strong wind it was still Paulton creating all of the chances. Farm keeper named man of the match and quite rightly so. If you don't take your chances you don't get a result. Very enjoyable game in difficult conditions.

Both sides had plenty of chances, could easily have been 3-3 at HT.

A defeat was definitely hard on Paulton, if they play like that each week they'll be near the top of the league. Just need to be ,ore clinical.

No reserve keeper? Dammit I miss matches like that.

Well done Farm for getting over the midweek disappointment and good luck Rovers (Paulton) for the rest of the season.

Come on you Romans!!!

Went to a cup match Worle vs Winscombe who are in the Somerset county league (next one below Western League Toolstation).

Worle are in the Premier league (level 11) Winscombe in Divsion 1 (level 12)

Good entertaining game.

Anyone else go to a game at a level lower than this?

In the Weston district area you can go down to level 18 ,think in Bristol there are more levels down to 22.

Went to watch Thornbury Town as I reside north of the river and they won 7-0. One of their players received a nasty injury and the ambulance had to come. Game didn’t officially finish until 17:20 ish! Fair play to New College Swindon who agreed to stand on the pitch for an extra five mins to prevent it having to be replayed.

Thornbury into 3rd and could potentially go up this season...

Were coming for you. We’re coming for youuu. Bristol Rovers. We’re coming for you
