The word in the song & film is more often than not hyphenated with a four letter one preceding it... Hyphenation for the word itself is not necessary though.

Clue... Song has been recorded and covered by numerous artists.

This had better be good when you do the big reveal otherwise you`re toast mate!:P

Hmm, beginning to merde myself already tbh  mate...  ;)  what have I got myself into now.. ?

PS.. it's only trivial I know, but I am genuinely interested now in finding out where else, if at al,l the mystery word has been used, it just seems odd, and having thought about it, I wanna know..

(but first of all I thought it'd be fun to do it this way, wtf is it? :) )

So we have a word clue...

S * * E * * O * E *

The word fits into a well known six word sentence.

It has award winning links to the music and film industries.

A number of artistes have recorded the music related element.

A 1950's book inspired the whole thing.

(that's enough for now to be going on with)

No doubt you are right, but shouldn't it be Splendoured?

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/many-splendoured

Lot's of example sentences there if required :P

I'm just going off the song title.

But yes, @WhistleHappy, ive never heard it used in any form other than the song. Andy Williams also did a version too.

I'm sure it's been copied by many artists over the years. Not a word i've ever used in every day conversation bar the song.

Holy Sherlocks Batman!

Maybe a bit generous with the clues, thought people might be getting bored with it to be honest, didn't realise I'd made it that easy though... Nevermind, it did take a Super Hero to crack it, I'm happy with that..

Right then, everyone's on the same page was on last week when I first thought to myself (God knows why) that I can't recall ever seeing the word  ... S P L E N D O R E D … used anywhere else except in connection with the book title, film, song, and US soap opera...  It is in the dictionary as a genuine word but is it used ANYWHERE ELSE in everyday language? …. Most words obviously crop up in many many situations... SPLENDORED despite it fame appears virtually unique in it's usage..

Or Am I Wrong?

(anyway well done Batman … I'm off to change my OTIB signature now!)

PSST...  Anyone know how to change OTIB signatures? … it's been a while since I last done it and I b*gger*d if I can remember how.

I wanted to find another use for the word SPLENDORED so plan on

THE  GAP  - a  Many  Splendored  Thing!

for my sig

(or a pretty unique tag line for BS? )

Bristol Sport - a Many Splendored Thing!

(SL its yours free if you want it :) )

Don't think I would have got it even with more letters. To me just looking at the word it just looks wrong.

I also think it should be spelt with a 'u' … but imagine, as it is such a sparsely used word which we don't see elsewhere, that the spelling predominantly stems from the film and song titles which I presume was dictated by the yanks, (similar to UK colour and US color)  .. I think both spellings would be correct, but it seems to appear only in the  ** 'Love Is A Many Splendored Thing' film/song context...

** (until now...

I'm reviving and re-utilising it in it's well known minus a 'u' version and want to make it City related, it's a rarely used word so it can become unique to us...  Hence my OTIB signature :city: )

Come On You Reds.... Spread the word.. make 'BCFC a many SplendoRED thing. !
