I can't see John Terry's personality helping with that situation either. Weight of expectations will be huge and immediate, could be a poison chalice for Dean Smith. Wot a shame

The Batman
Just realised he was the Manager of Walsall when we beat them in the Football League Final back in 2015, and when we beat the 8-2 on the final day Will be interesting to see how much time he is given there. Lot of expectation and big money in comparison to Brentford & Walsall.
Tipps69
It’ll be interesting to see if Smith now gets a choice of who he can sign (if Villa are allowed to sign anymore players), given that Brentford’s system probably meant that signings were made for him. If Villa are going to carry on throwing money at things, will Smith know how to spend it ‘properly’? The likely budgets at Villa will probably be something that he’s never had the advantage of before at Walsall & Brentford & will the Villa set up allow for lesser known players joining? Or is this part of the Villa hierarchy’s plan, to get away from throwing ridiculous amounts of money at signings? It will also be interesting to see who he goes back to Brentford for? Maupay, Watkins, Canos, Mepham? Will Hogan now get a proper opportunity at Villa? Or will he be left with nothing to spend & have to work with what he has (how unfortunate to have such poor resources available to him). I just think that the Villa job is a poisoned chalice, the pressure will be so immense to succeed because of their previous mismanagement that it leaves it as a very difficult job to succeed in, there is only one option left for anyone there, there is no building the club from the roots, it’s success or fail, no middle ground & the odds are heavily against them succeeding now. petehinton
Can’t see this ending well personally. Never managed at a big club with players on huge money and egos. Never got a team promoted. Fans will have their knives out if they aren’t in play offs/top 2 by Xmas I give it a year.
