A couple of them helped coach my son's football team. Was hilarious watching them trying to communicate with a load of 12 year olds from BS3. You don’t think there are plenty of “top managers” all over Europe then? and the three you mention have spent more time managing in other leagues than the Prem I would think. Other than the 3-4 top sides in the Prem, the quality of football in ( say) Spain is far superior, Its really not if you take the top 3-4 sides out of the other leagues either. I've been watching a lot of games on one of the BT sports channels from France and Germany and it is pretty poor, not different to watching West Ham v Watford for example. Good chance PL is the best League with possible toss up v La Liga- but the hype is a crock. It's brilliantly marketed and clearly a strong League but the hype is perhaps a tad OTT. Because face facts, a division where 8th-20th got under 50 points and 7th-20th had a negative goal difference...isn't the best league of all time. spudski
I met Ivan Campo and his agent many moons ago...said to him he should sign for us instead of Ipswich. Always wondered whether someone like that would have made the difference between play offs and top 2 in 2008. Now he would have been a great Spanish signing imo. I'm often not happy with LJ's tactics, but sitting back and thinking about it I've followed 20 years- pretty much the same amount of time in the 3rd tier as the 2nd. This era by historic City standards is not too bad IMO.

Why people pay to watch this shit I don't know. Maybe your economy is going to well and you should stay in the EU. Not even the brain dead middle class will pay for this long term. Forget it Bristol Sport. Thanks for your concern Tommy, but we've made the decision we'd rather not. Hope things are going better in Sweden than they appear to be from the little news we get from your country.

That's why not only did you and 23 other Swedes pay to watch it, you paid for flights, hotels and a shit load of beer (stab in the dark) for the pleasure Welcome to the brain dead middle class, along with the rest of us

HoHum, never let the facts get in the way of an agenda. However, you might argue that we’ve not been very good about bringing in players from abroad, apart from from Diedhiou, all the others were present in this country already. Having said that, it’s a moot point, the English Championship is a multi-national league....why restrict yourself to one country’s players. Might also be argued our foreign scouting system and indeed in general our scouting system isn't as good as it could be. If Matthieu Louis-Jean quits or moves on, giving his role to Mervyn Day on top of the latter's usual duties and leaving the role itself vacant- which was what effectively happened- does not constitute good planning IMO. Hire a foreign football specialist for abroad, have Mervyn Day on UK or overseeing the whole thing- it isn't hard. Our general record with signings from abroad? Hit and miss IMO- not brilliant, not disastrous. However it needs to be better than hit and miss.

Not exactly a raging success but he's no mug either. Where did Maenpaa come from? But I take your point. The massive risk when bringing players from abroad is that they just will not settle. Different country, language and lack of friends / family is not for everybody and working out who it will suit is not an exact science.

Actually, that is an interesting question. I seem to recall he arrived with promising credentials and, with Brian Tinnion's Spanish connections, I remember thinking there might be some form of avenue in to recuiting young Spanish players.
