Or go to a 'Spoons, food optional, drink as per budget and meet similar.

Each to their own...but I won't frequent a 'spoons'...

Near me I call it the Bermuda triangle...there is a 'spoons', a Doctors surgery, a post office and a Vape shop all within 50m of one another. Just up the road a Greggs.

Seems some people live in this small world.

Turn up to Doc's in mobility scooter ...collect money from post office, drink, eat and socialise in spoons, sprint across to vape shop, forgetting mobility scooter, run to Greggs for kids tea.

Sometimes outside my local 'Spoons' it looks like the start of a mobility scooter GP. Drivers stuffing their faces with big fry ups and downing pints of cheap larger all day.

Many complaining about all the immigrants coming into the country taking their jobs and how shit City are

I walk past wondering what the **** i'm doing in this country.

I then go back to work...sneak on to OTIB, and find it's not too dissimilar. People taking the piss and moaning a lot ?

Whilst I agree the menu is a bit lame...What I can't understand is people moaning about the price.

Less than £20 to attend, have a meal, be with like minded fans, socialise in a decent environment, have people serve, be entertained with a guest speaker etc.

You pay as much to go to the cinema today and have a drink and some popcorn.

If people had been financially supportive of a cinema for 30/40+ years then maybe true. There is nothing within that menu that justifies the cost, phantom is spot on that this demographic of supporter should be treated better

I'm not sure how to respond to this other than. WOW!

What a condescending and elitist reply that is so arrogant and shocking.

It says more about you than the people you describe

Just the latest type post of this nature .........

I think you’d be better sticking with your golf club and a gin and tonic with your agent friends and hob knobs Spudski (If they were to exist)

Congratulations on being so successful in,life that you can look down your nose at others

Thats my ‘polite thoughts’

Wow

As we are so honoured by your presence and you think £20 quid at the cinema or on a Seniors Lunch is such good value and a negligible spend....maybe you could upgrade to be. A member on here

.......Only £5

Now that is a bargain

You're ******* joking right?

'Condescending...Elitist and arrogant'?

I'm fed up of seeing working class people get up and work their socks off, struggling to feed their families and pay their bills. Whilst scroungers make out they are ill, con doctors, and spend all day hanging out in spoons getting drunk, eating and socialising and complaining about he 'system'.

Anyone not working, shouldn't be paid to sit on their arses eating and drinking all day, socialising in a 'spoons'...like many do.

Say's more about you if you think this is acceptable.

Tbf to Spudski his description of his ‘Bermuda Triangle’ fits perfectly with the spoons in Nailsea.

Dr surgery, post office, Greggs..........could be anywhere, any town.

What does a glass of OJ, cheese and lettuce and a bit of Vienetta cost a professional catering outfit? A quid fifty a head maybe.

I am glad I still have 'early death' as my financially sound retirement plan.

I would wait to later and get the most out of your last day.

And people taking advantage of the 'system' which is what I'm referring to in my posts. Whilst the working class work bloody hard and struggle to survive.

Yet some think that's acceptable and give me shit over it. WTF.

At least we know what we are dealing with on here.

People who think that's acceptable.

Can't respect anyone who thinks that.

I would question the post by@spudski . Agree with the critiques of it by other posters because the post came across as inflammatory- but also economically... I believe JSA is about 70 odd quid a week. It's no huge amount in 2018!

So I don't find it terribly credible- if only from an economic standpoint. Maybe a while ago, but now? Really? Certainly doubt it as a proportion of those unlucky enough to be out of work. (I'm sure there are a fee or a small % who take advantage, but that's it- a few).

'Inflammatory'? Because I pointed out the 'scroungers' hanging out in spoons, whilst the working class struggle?

Really don't understand this way of thinking.

Benefits are their to help the people who need it...not work shy scroungers, making out they are ill, whilst sat on their backsides getting pissed with no intentions ever of working.

Sorry...you can call me what ever you want...but I stand by my sentiments. Seeing people turn up in mobility scooters, then run about like loons when they forget they are supposed to be ill just makes my piss boil...but not as much as some on here who defend it.

Indeed there are...but they are open everyday doing that as a business.

The Club are providing an 'occasional', meal and 'entertainment'...allowing like minded people to gather and socialise together under one roof.

Try hiring a similar place, getting food and chef and service, and guest speaker for the same price.

One of the objectives of Bristol Sport is to have Ashton Gate open every day as a business  generating income. The same as a restaurant. If  a large number of people went to a restaurant / pub for lunch they would not need to hire the venue. Similarly, you don’t pay extra for the chef or the service. As for the speakers, they are not hired for the Senior Reds lunches. They speak for free

OK bit of a misunderstanding on my part perhaps.

I just don't see 78 quid per week or whatever it is as terribly likely to yield a pissing it up lifestyle or even a cheaper yet taking the piss lifestyle- doesn't sound affordable.

However- don't agree with your point at all on Wetherspoons- it's value for money in the main.

You both forgot the betting shop, there’s always a bookie too. Or is that done on an app these days. Yes, all towns and cities have those triangles, often frequented by Zombies. And as for the ones on the Spice, or whatever it is, shocking how dangerous that is.

Oh, can I add McDonalds into the triangle too, they can attract some people at times too.

It's truly shocking how most 'communities' have these areas, where people who don't work socialise all day.

I walk past my area nearly every day, and it seems to be the same faces nearly every day. It can't be right.

Friend of mine is a Plasterer and often pops in the local spoons for Breakfast or lunch.

He was telling me in our local last week, that a couple woman on the table next to him, were discussing how much benefit they were getting for having kids and they were considering having more...even though neither of their partners apparently worked. Complaining about how much money they received, whilst checking social media and bitchin' about 'friends' on FB, on their latest £700 IPhone...I just don't get it...I truly don't.

Seems to be a contentious point though...as others seem to think this is acceptable.

Ever since the introduction of the welfare state, people have regularly abused it. It’s human nature for some. The government have tried to crack down on the abuse and we regularly see prison sentences dished out to the offenders who are ordered to pay back the amount they stole but it doesn’t seem to discourage that many. To them it’s free money........

I guess I’m fortunate in as much I’ve never needed to claim a penny from the state. Even when I qualify in three years for my OAP I’d have paid my stamp fully, never having been unemployed.

I thought you lived in Chipping Sodbury? Nowhere like that there, no Spoons either.

I didn't think anybody read the Daily Mail and actually believed their obnoxious bile but seems I was wrong.

I'll have to agree with you spudski. I work bloody hard in my job and I will be out in all types of weather but I take pride in what I do. when I get home from a hard days work I can see some of the neighbors have just been getting pissed up in their garden all day so I know there are scroungers in the system. There are good Spoons and bad Spoons.

I think the worst I ever encountered was in Wimbledon with Taunton and Penzance following.  I have however been to many excellent ones; far more than the bad ones.  The Swan in Weymouth and Green Parrot in Perrnaporth are particular favourites.  The most sensible one was in Bridport where there was a covered walk through to a courtyard.  On the right hand side of this were sitting the usual suspects drinking beer before lunch whilst propping up the bar and on the left hand side everybody was sitting around tables drinking tea and coffee whilst eating or just chatting.

They can vary.

Best I ever went to was Tunbridge Wells a few years back- was a Sunday afternoon, the Spoons itself is themed like an opera house- and there is an Opera one day a year. People just sitting around, reading books, all seemed rather sedate tbh.

The one thing they do well, is find really nice buildings to set up in.

They tried opening one in Chipping Sodbury in the old Lloyds Bank building.

It was refused permission as too many people objected

The one closest me is pretty much full everyday. Same faces... don't know how people afford it when they aren't working.

We can agree to disagree.

There will always be people abusing the system but thankfully they are a significant minority as the vast majority of people work hard and pay taxes all their lives.

What's a real shame is that people don't seem to feel the same anger for people abusing the system at the top where it actually makes a significant difference, not your neighbour who's blagging a few hundred quid out the system but the bankers and fund managers fixing the markets. The massive corporations paying NO tax; only today it's been revealed Cadburys made £185m profit last year in this country and paid NO corporation tax because they are able to play the system. That is frankly disgusting.

Instead of getting angry about people at the bottom of society, who have little impact on 'the system' anyway, it'd be nice if people turned their attentions to the con artists at the top who are the ones really screwing us ALL over. It just stinks of the same attitude of Brexiters 'blame the immigrants'. The most vulnerable. The easy target. Oh, hang on, EU migrants actually contribute more economically per person than the average Brit - d'oh!

Anyway, what was the fruit juice starter like? Anyone?

Very similar to the one in Colchester Town - The Playhouse. They have (or had, havent been in there for a few years) dummies sat up in the seats.

There are good ones and bad ones, and then every now and then the personnel change and the quality of food goes up or down. Much the same as any other pub really.

Absolutely agree Mr Hitler,

I quite like teaspoons myself, they're my favourites, along with dessert spoons which I must admit I find quite fruity at times..

On the other hand I have no time for tablespoons who I find flipping annoying, big headed sods the lot of 'em..

Don't get me started on those late night ladle's either, they're always out on the s a u ce .. far too bloody chavie for my liking..

Sorry if my views stir up any bad feelings, but if anyone is offended by them they can fork off . :)

Please don't think that I have a problem with Cutlery in general, in fact I'm really rather fond of it.

In common with many City supporters I actually admire Cutlery particularly his anthem....

'Drink Up Thy Zider' .
