Injured list

With an ongoing injury list which now seems to get bigger each season would it be possible to have a pinned topic to clearly identify all our injuries and the anticipated return to fitness of a player?

Some injuries will have to kept a bit off radar to avoid giving too much information away to opponents but for more obvious injuries such as Frankie or Tomas it would be useful to know when we can expect to see players returning to training.  Getting back to match fitness is of course another matter...

Maybe the thread would have been more appropriate if i had named it ‘Long term injuries’?

Giving a tactical advantage to another team is obviously not recommended but I’m talking ‘public’ - out there in media land known injuries, just so we all know where we stand with our obviously injured players not someone who has pulled a hamstring etc.

Isn’t Lee Johnson the only person who needs to know this information..?

What’s the actual benefit of knowing when players are likely to return, if we aren’t the ones picking the team..?

There is a lot more to recovering from long term injury than just being overbthe injury itself. They need to build up match fitness again, test it appropriately in training and may also have psychological barriers to overcome (trusting their body & recovery) before they return to full fitness.

length of time out tends to be guesstimated a few days after the injury once they’ve had time to assess and then put out on website and social media

I think maybe if we did anything it would be something like this lifted from the OS but maybe add in the match or roughly the time when the injury happened. Eg a player could be stated as being out for roughly 6 weeks but I tend to forget after a few weeks when the injury was.

Hakeeb Adelakun (ankle) * Example * Preseason 14 Weeks estimate
Frank Fielding (hip) Preseason 12 weeks estimate
Korey Smith (knee)  18/08/18 v Middlesbrough (H) 5 or 6 months estimate.
Tomas Kalas (fractured jaw) 21/09/18 Wigan (A) 6 Weeks
Mo Eisa (ankle) ? 4 to 6 weeks.

It’s from info taken from the OS and I’ve added the dates and estimates from the BBC site so it’s not ‘giving away’ info that’s not already out there. I’m happy to update this if that’s what people want, in a similar way to the transfer site where people add to the thread and I just edit the original post?

Put that question to LJ, he's the one who publicly gives out estimates for return (presumably after taking advice from the medics) every time a player gets injured!

I agree with the OP, it would be nice to have all LJ's estimates in one place on OTIB even if we know they are just that.

Why? Simply so we can all have a good idea when long term injured players are likely to be in contention for selection again.

Genuine point- I really think in 2018 Championship clubs would be a bit more clued up  and through using using scouting etc than to rely on a Fans Forum for injury updates, likely dates of return etc

Not saying this isn't an excellent forum  but analytics, scouting, use of specialist sites- all professional clubs likely do it to varying levels depending on budget etc.*

*Except that other side in Bristol- but then they aren't a professional outfit.

I would tell you but I suspect the newly appointed Brentford manager will be browsing on here later today.

Good point - guess we shouldn't mention that all of the first team squad are injured then and that we are going to have to field the U 16's on Saturday

On the subject of injuries

Tony Cottee on radio this morning talking about coaches and managers he’d worked under

Asked who was the best motivator / man manager

’Martin O’Neil ....by a mile’

Cottee went onto describe some of O’Neils methods including the fact that if you were injured he would not speak to you (As you were no use to him) and would walk past you in a corridor - what Cottee described as motivation to get back fit

Ive heard this of other managers and used to think it was the very odd one but heard it of a few now

Is it me or does that seem a very strange method of motivating / man managing ?

(As I say Cottee didn’t seem to have an issue)

As the OP - this is exactly what I was trying to suggest. Thanks
