Stewards and Medical Staff

The stewards come in for considerable flak on here - often with justification. However, I think it is important to also mention when they do well.

My son was taken ill at the Hull game on Wednesday. His mum escorted him out of the seating area (W16) to get some assistance. The first steward they came to was excellent - called assistance and generally did all that he could until others came to help, eventually getting him to the medical centre where he was looked after by the St John's team. They were also excellent, carrying out tests and then keeping him under observation until he was well enough to leave. At this point, the gate stewards at the Ashton Road entrance escorted me and the car to pick him up from the door of the medical centre. Bit of a long journey home to Cornwall, but made it safely. Our son has recovered well and is feeling much better - well enough to go to the Stoke game tomorrow!

So, in this case, credit where it is due - good work by the stewards and medical team. Very grateful for their help.

Great to hear, I know a few stewards personally and are all great at what they do, and have also experienced a friend being taken ill at a game and needing hospital treatment and how well they are dealt with

But have to say in contrast, Wednesday night was odd, I enter by E34 the same steward is based there he is always polite and deals very well with the supporters in and out of that section

BUT on the way out of the South Stand there were stewards arguing among themselves, with a young lad (Steward 179) he had made some comment about City being shit to a small group watching the closing stages on a TV. It turned out he was a Rovers fan, but was was odd to see this guy be spoken to not only by supporters watching the TV screen but also by two other stewards - it very nearly boiled over

Probabably about 8 years or so ago I had a problem at Derby away and their stewards were brilliant. I emailed someone at Derby a couple of days later and had a lovely response back. They said they didn’t get thanks or praise very often, nobody bothers. Only thing they hear is if people complain. He was going to print my email out and put it in the Stewards room before the match to make sure everyone saw it. I hope our stewards get to hear your thanks @REDPJ

Credit where credit is due, we’ll done to all and great to have a positive outcome.

Not wishing to highjack a thread (as if no one ever does!), but we could do with having stewards usher out the Dolman early leavers, instead of the early leavers standing at the exits blocking the views of those remaining, especially the p***k recording the game on his phone. Apologies if my language offended anyone as I only encouraging them to leave a little swifter, as that appears to have been their intention in the first place! ?

The stewards act under instruction from the safety officer who constantly provoke fans in the singing section.

At the Hull game they were trying to move fans who were stood in front of the glass screens because they were not stood behind a seat even though they have been standing in the same position for the past 2 years and do not obsturct anybodies view.

While it's plausible that the safety officer isn't a fan of the singing section and is attempting to enflame things there, it is also quite possible that the club IMO have come under instruction from one of those safety bodies- e.g. the SAG or the SGSA- to keep these areas fully clear at all times. Perhaps it's both?

Overkill or not, if the club get an instruction like that then they have to comply or make all efforts to do so- and be seen to be doing so as well. Safety bodies are very hot on this sort of thing, based on what I've read.

Less excusable I feel, as read on here was when stewards tried to make fans in said unreserved singing section sit in the seat it said on their tickets- despite the tickets being unreserved!

IMO the safety officer was having a quite day and instucting the stewards to carry out a request which even they found pointless.

Depends- is this the first time it happened or?

Does seem that there are often problems in that area though, brought about needlessly by overzealously instructed stewards.

However, I digress- think the majority (in the ground as a whole) do a solid job!

As stated we have stood in the same position the past 2 seasons not on the stairs or obstructing anyones view.

To be fair to the stewards they were only carrying out direct insturctions from the safety officer.

We have not been asked to move before.

Ive never had an issue with the stewards or the stewarding in over 50 years of attending foorball matches. Always found them to be friendly and helpful whenever needed both home and away.

Think you made a mistake

dont you mean 30?

and today, there were two stewards stood in front of the glass screen in the singing section, after moving some fans away , whilst fans were pointing out the flare going off in the away end !

Likewise credit due for actions today in W17. I was the opposite side of the ground, but it looked they worked hard with the medical team to look after somebody who was eventually carried out on a chair stretcher.

Hope the person involved is ok.

That was along the row from me. Hope the poor guy is ok. They took some time treating him in his seat but, he was fully conscious when being wheeled out.
