According to this article. If true the theory that we have saved money from the summer sales to splash later seems unlikely.

This must be prior to our transfer activity surely? A rough estimate would be £23m from the sale of the 3 main players alone.

Just took a first look at the accounts.

Remember for Bristol City Holdings and Bristol City FC there will be some differences if prior years are anything to go by- unsure when Bristol City Holdings Accounts are out but that could also be a valid measurement.

Some key takeaways:

  • Turnover- £17,109,165 (up from £14,293,531 in 2017). Up by about 19.7%
  • Wages (this obviously includes all staff, including Directors salaries- but this is purely wages, not pensions or Social Security costs)- £20,592,538. (up from £15,957,410 in 2017). Up by about 29.04%

In FFP terms, we're fine but not by a lot when it comes to the 3 year period from 2015/16 to last season, but this indicates fully why the summer sales were needed.

@RedRaw @hoxton casual I've got a feeling that those wages are mainly 2016/17- for us that looks like the Bristol City Holdings for 16/17 as opposed to BCFC figures for season just gone. Our BCFC Holdings wages should be higher than this, but then so should the turnover!

Interesting that Wolves are low down on that list.

That list is 2017 mainly- as in 16/17 season except for those listed 2018. In layman's terms, pre Neves for them!

Which adds confusion because our figures on there seem to be consistent with our Bristol City Holdings wage bill from 2016/17 as opposed to our Bristol City FC Wage bill from last season. They've used our BCFC Holdings figures basically, which aren't out yet.

Financial years run from April to March, so the accounts will never align with the football season.

How Leeds keep their wage bill so low remains one of the great mysteries.

Surely the days of brown envelopes left on players boots can’t have made a comeback

So we pay higher wages than Leeds? That’s interesting...especially when people say we can’t compete with them in the transfer market etc...

Slightly tongue in cheek but I wonder if we pay higher salaries to attract players here. It's often said we find it harder to attract players to back water Bristol City. Perhaps that's why some of the 'bigger' clubs have lower wage bills?

Eh?? No such theory existed.

In fact, postings on here by those who can get their heads round it all (Mr. P and DaveFevs for example)  have consistently suggested the opposite - that we are OK re FFP but only just.

There has been no suggestion by those who understand the financial side of things that we have a warchest ready to splurge on new signings. Quite the contrary.

Bristol City accounting year end is 31st May.

I thought that our loss was gonna be £18m because SL converted that much to shares thru last year.

Does this mean he’s not underwritten £5m of the £23m loss?

....and now people might start to realise that in our most successful season in 10 years we made the biggest loss ever and therefore

1. We didn’t go mad in january

2. Why we had players leave in the summer

Food for thought, eh?

Do people actually say that? Or are you just assuming they do? Leeds are unremarkable mid-table spenders in this division much like ourselves.

They only bought two players for a fee in the summer, totalling about £10m.

We can compete with Leeds. But there are plenty of Championship clubs much further up that list spending an awful lot more on wages than us.
