Coventry again

Due to a legal case, Coventry City may be evicted from the Ricoh arena again. Last time they played at Northampton. The (ever so supportive) league have announced they will not permit CCFC to play home games outside of Coventry again. If they cannot find a home venue within the city limits, they will be suspended form the League.

Seventy years ago Harry Dolman declared a club should always own it's ground. This latest case shows what happens when you are but tenants at someone else's property.

The club only has 13 games left to play at the Ricoh until the rent deal with Wasps ends at the end of the season in May.

Coventry City’s chief executive Dave Boddy told fans last week that the English Football League will not allow the club to play outside the city if they fail to reach a new deal to stay at the Ricoh Arena.

That means the club’s future in the Football League is “severely at risk”, he added.

A Coventry City fans’ campaign group has today called on those in power to end the legal battle - or hand the club over to someone who cares about its future.

Thats wrong

Whats wrong with clubs playing where they want

So when Wimbledon were looking at Dublin as a potential new location for their club you’d have been in agreement?! And there were even rumours at the time that they had raised the idea of sharing Ashton Gate....that would have been ok with you? None of this gave any consideration to their fans....

Worst case scenario; Coventry are kicked out of the League as they have no home. As a result, the gas escape relegation.

Joking aside, as always it's the fans I feel sorry for. The players (at least the majority) may well be signed by other clubs, but fans do not switch allegiances. Many small local businesses may also lose financially if CCFC were to drop out of the League, or worse still, be wound up if they were also stopped from playing in the National League.

Why can't they play outside the city limits? I'm sure this decision will be changed if no deal can be reached. Surely the last thing the league wants is football not being played.

Isn`t Bolton`s ground outside the boundary of the town? It`s in Horwich I think. Also Grimsby famously play in Cleethorpes.

The league have let Charlton, Wimbledon & Brighton (as well as the s*gs) play away from their home areas - Brighton weren`t even in the same county when they played at Gills - so why is it all of a sudden a problem unless it`s all designed to put pressure on the owners and the league wouldn`t go through with it.

This news just wants me to see Wael cash in on the Mem and leave the gas with nowhere in Bristol that they can play.

is this a new ruling or does it only apply to Coventry, lots of clubs have played outside their city on a temporary basis, rovers played in bath and Wimbledon played at Milton Keynes before the chairman stole their identity and changed their name.

Who owns the Ricoh and who will use it if Coventry doesn’t?

Wasps rugby now own the ground , Coventry are tenants, Coventry have never owned the ground, they used to rent it from the joint owners ( Coventry council and a charitable trust) but they sold it to Wasps. Coventry have scummy owners who won't invest and seem to resent having to any rent.

I really don’t know pillred - it does seem that Coventry are being used to make some sort of point here...as you say other teams have played outside their hometowns and cities - another good example is Grimsby Town, their Blundell Park ground is in Cleethorpes - so Grimsby Town haven’t played in Grimsby since 1899...
