Kid in the Riot
Link above to best albums of 2016 and 2015. I think @Red Dave did last year's thread. So, it gives me great pleasure to start this year's proceedings with a BRISTOL band! Finally... Idles - Joy as an Act of Resistance Tory-hating punk, bringing pride back to left-wing snowflakes everywhere. Their year was topped off with a stunning performance of Danny Nedelko on Jools. Parquet Courts - Wide Awake! Danger Mouse on production is usually a good sign and this funky, danceable effort from one of the best indie outliers is a hit from start to finish. Album opener is called "Total Football". Robyn - Honey Scandinavian dance-pop perfection. Will probably top a fair few album of the year charts. Pusha T - Daytona A great example of quality over quantity as this album is only about 22 minutes long. Gansta rap but with pop hooks aplenty. Young Fathers - Cocoa Sugar Difficult to name many better British bands over the past decade. Even more stripped down than their previous efforts and devoid of any traditional pop structures. Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer Third LP from the amazing Janella Monae, the album draws you in with an intro featuring Brian Wilson and what follows is monumental. An insanely talented woman. Noname - Room 25 Whimsical storytelling laid over live instrumentalism, breakthrough year for the female Chicago rapper. Kali Uchis - Isolation Inventive dance-pop from the American-Columbian artist. Listened to this a lot. U.S. Girls - In a Poem Unlimited A musically diverse album from an artist that's been around a while but that I hadn't heard of. Will be delving into her back catalogue given the quality of this album... Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour Not usually my kind of thing but this country album is just immaculate and a lovely listen. What's everyone else been listening to this year?

Have seen them live a couple of times - once earlier in the year in London and more recently in Bristol. Two of the best gigs I’ve been to in recent memory. Awesome live band! I hadn’t realised until I saw them in Bristol that Danny Nedelko, other than being from a family of immigrants, is also the lead singer of fellow Bristol Band Heavy Lungs (who supported in Bristol and also sounded very good). Tipps69
The only one I really got a chance to listen to & enjoyed was Tom Grennan’s - Lighting Matches. Seen him in Bristol a couple of months ago & while expecting it to be a fairly down beat gig, it was actually very upbeat.

internetjef
Parquet Courts - wide awake was prob my fav album this year. Saw them at SWX in The centre the other day and they were great. The album Microshift by Hookworms is also really good, especially the front half of it. Haven’t seen it mentioned in previous posts. I think they have now broken up as sounds like lead singer might have been involved in some shady behaviour. love this time of year going through all the best of lists and checking out stuff I missed

I’m good thanks fella. I don’t know the ins and outs of it but looks like he got acused of sexually abusing a former girlfriend or something. i haven’t read the whole backstory but there’s a bit on twitter and the band announced they were splitting with immediate effect cancelling remaining gigs etc.

Some will say it’s not as good as their debut...that just shows how fantastic their debut was. Anyway, it’s another solid album.
