Almost @RedMthe word for sea is Mer but I l8ke you thinking

Tis a long time since my French O-Level to be fair, never used it since so I’m surprised I’ve even retained that. Still know all the swear words though in case I need to tell a French speaker to do one.

The Great Sea, as in Weston-Super-Mare

The Great Sea would, in fact, be translated as La Grande Mer, not to be confused with La Grand-mere (Grandmother). A Mare is actually a pond, so a strict translation for Mr. Lansdown's new hotel would be The Big Pond

Which I believe is actually a bastardisation of Weston sur Mare

In fact, see above, it would be Weston-sur-Mer if translated (bastardised) from French. Weston-super-Mare actaually gets its name from the Latin - above (super) sea (mare).
