Derby County have said the person police spoke to acting suspiciously outside their training ground on Thursday was an employee of Leeds United's football staff.

The sixth-placed Rams visit the Championship leaders on Friday.

They said in a statement they were "in discussion with Leeds club officials in relation to this incident".

The BBC has asked Leeds for a response, after they said earlier on Friday they would not comment on initial reports.

Derbyshire Police said officers were called to Derby's training ground on Thursday morning and a man was spoken to at the perimeter fence.

They added: "No damage to the fence was found, and... no arrests were made."

The English Football League have told the BBC that it is a matter for the two clubs to resolve.

Indeed. I suspect it's more common than people might imagine.

I suspect so too. I dislike Leeds with a passion but, other than possibly trespass, there is no offence here other than a moral affront to fair play in football. Or to refer to another sport ‘it’s not cricket old boy!’

Bielsa has now admitted sanctioning it. If it was Rotherham the EFL would act. Because it’s Leeds it’s for the two clubs to sort out!!

Exactly right......everyone seems to be saying it's for someone else to sort out, listening to the pre match on Sky. The manager of FLDC was very upset.  Not the first time this has happened... .  Bielsa saying he's done it before and doesn't see a problem as it's legal.....

Just saw the pre-match stuff on Sky.

Don't think I've seen Frank Lampard seem so cross before.

Could be a feisty night

Looking forward to watching this one

Thought it was a great interview. Showing some class unlike Bielsa.

You could see in lampards face he’s ******* fuming about this. Saying they saw what team was picked , tactics, pressing triggers and if people are saying it doesn’t matter then the top managers, pep, klopp etc are just lucky and none of they’re tactics matter . He’s proper pissed off ?

******* hate Leeds
