Weiman reminded me of Ian Rush

Ian Rush never would shout put it on me head to a cross that was coming in

Its very difficult for a winger to be

running at 100mph

trying to get round a defender

and then look up and hit a pin point pass to a striker

Rush would always MOVE to where he though the bll was coming in

Weiman was like jack in the box for his goal

Weiman was in three different posistions in point six of a second

I’m sure I recall Rush used to say for strikers to defend from the front, we like to call it a high press these days and we had that often yesterday, AW in particular and as a result we won the ball back in some great positions

This is what I thought this thread was going to be about. I can remember an old coach of mine saying that not only is Ian Rush one of the best strikers around, he was one of the best defenders for his team. Worked his socks off & never gave defenders a moments peace. COYR

Lots of pisstaking here yet NTTTDS’s astute point about AWs movement to invite / dictate the cross is overlooked

And yes, a trait of Rush to make the movement to invite the set up

Rush was also a great finisher though.

With due respect Super

And you need to put down the Liverpool scarf occasionally

NTTDs is not suggesting AW is comparable to Ian Rush as a player , he’s , quite rightly IMHO suggesting AWs movement to find space to allow and invite the cross was ‘ Rush like’....Which...........it was
