downendcity
Watching the Real game on a dodgy hesgoal stream and Dutch commentary, so not completely sure what happened. Ajax scored a superb goal, but then the kick off was delayed while they referred not the goal, or a possible offside but whether the ball had gone out for a Real throw much earlier in the move. Just how far does VAR review extend and how far back in a move can they review? P.S. Ajax just gone 4-1 so looks like goodbye Real M!
downendcity
Just a reminder that Ramos got himself booked deliberately in the first leg, so that he would miss tonight's game and thereby be available for the quarter final. That went well!
Admin phantom Posted March 5, 2019 Admin Report Share Posted March 5, 2019 Reals manager will be off very shortly, noticed mourinho has been sniffing around, expect he'll be in situ soon
Sir Geoff
Was watching this one on BT after switching from Spurs game after they went 1-0 up. 3 1/2 minutes to make the VAR decision is disgraceful. How difficult is it to see if the ball has gone over the line or not. If they can't see it properly due to poor camera angles then they cant give it. Glad to see the goal stand though. Ajax looked tasty but Madrid were truly awful.
Lrrr
Law 5 states that ‘the referee may not change a decision on realising it is incorrect (…) if play has restarted (…)’. This means that a restart decision cannot be changed once the game has been restarted e.g. if a corner kick is taken even if a goal results and TV replays show that it should have been a goal kick, the original goal kick/corner kick decision cannot be changed. The same is true for all restarts: throwin, free kick etc. If, after a reviewable incident, play stops and is restarted then no review is permitted (except for direct sending off offences). Gazred
Looks like the end of an era for Real. Ajax were very impressive.

There was no restart, the goal flowed from the same move that the ball may / may not have gone out for a throw in.

Just copied and pasted that from the rule book so sounds okay.

Stand by for them being asset stripped of their best young players by Europe's wealthiest clubs in the summer - De Jong is already going to Barca. internetjef
Fairplay to the ref for letting it stand. That was a pretty big nuts decision when it effectively knocks real out. Sounds like the rules were applied properly in the sense it needs to be categorically proven the full ball was out. Must have been about 90%

miketh2nd
I really hope VAR isn't over used , otherwise the pitch ref will just be used as a puppet and all luck will be gone.
Mr Popodopolous
That VAR call was tight but I think the right call was made. More broadly, saw most of that game. Ajax were as brilliant as Real Madrid were below par. On a wider level. There are times I get a bit disillusioned with the game at a high level. Money, relative predictability, the knowledge no the inevitability that historically great but cash poor or ambitiously rising clubs will be cherry picked by bigger, richer clubs and it can disillusion. I had a feeling Ajax had a chance tonight as Bernabeu not a Fortress this season, but that was magnificent. A fair bit of youth in that side, plus experienced returnees like Daley Blind and a wholly unexpected star man on the night in Tadic. Great goal, 2 assists and was fouled in the free kick for the 4th...constant threat tbh. Naturally, Mark Hughes sold him last summer! Seriously though, one of the things that makes this game great- Ajax are one of the great clubs, academy wise one of the talent factories of Europe over the years. Controversial comment perhaps but football won. Moneyed Galacticos 1 Actual Class 4.
Up The City!
Even from the poor angles it's clear to see the ball isn't 100% out and it needs to 100% cross the line.

They just need some rugby people to review it. They'll take less than half the time. Last night it was clear no angle was conclusive so the goal had to stand. Should have taken 60 seconds.
