very much looking forward to this - will Bosa go #1 or does Kliff want Kyler Murray to be QB1 and then he'll presumably bin off Rosen to the highest bidder. Not as amazing QB class as last year, but some great depth in pass rushers.

this is a good website to build your own big board of prospects if you're as sad as me ?

Despite following the NFL, I've never really got in to the draft (maybe because the Jets are so awful at it ). Probably because I don't follow college football at all, so have absolutely no idea who is any good. I'll just read up on it after it's happened and see what the experts think!

Still a question over Bosa's injury, that might prevent him from going no.1

Murray at 5'10" and 1/8th his height might go against him, also he's mobile a whole different ballgame in the pro's he'll meet someone on a scramble and because of his size he might come 2nd in the collision.?

all the mocks are putting Bosa, Murray and Quinnen Williams in various combinations in the top 3

Two questions:

  1. Who are the Jets likely to get with the 3rd pick?
  2. Is he any good?

Thanks muchly :smartass:

Quinnen Williams out of 'bama - widely regarded as the #3 choice behind Bosa and Murray so not bad

Just bought two tickets for the Giants against my Packers in New York in Dec. The season is nearly here.

Can't believe the Giants reached for Daniel Jones at #6 - there's always a few surprises on draft day!

Not strictly draft related but an interesting story, taken form Ghosts of the Orange Bowl page on FB, for those of you a bit older who were around when football started on C4 and remember the defensive woes of the Dolphins.

Ghosts of the Orange Bowl

Older Miami Dolphin fans may remember John Bosa (#97) and Eric Kumerow (#90) as two of the biggest draft busts in franchise history. Both had short, injury-plagued NFL careers that rarely flashed potential, while drawing plenty of boos, taunts and scathing insults from fans and the local media. But younger football fans may know Bosa as the father of Joey and Nick Bosa—two of the most promising young football talents to come out of South Florida. John Bosa didn’t let a failed NFL career define his life. Instead, he became one of South Florida’s great post-football success stories. It all couldn’t have happened without his teammate, friend and brother-in-law Kumerow.

John Bosa first appeared on South Florida’s football radar his sophomore year at Boston College on the day after Thanksgiving in 1984. He played in one of the most famous football games ever at the Orange Bowl. During a rainy afternoon, a national television audience watched BC’s Doug Flutie and Miami’s Bernie Kosar put on an aerial show for the ages. There were other stars. Miami running back Melvin Bratton scored 4 touchdowns in the game. Bosa had one of the few outstanding defensive plays with a sack of Kosar. But the game is forever remembered for Flutie’s miraculous 48 yard touchdown pass to Gerard Phelan to beat the Hurricanes 47-45 on the final play of the game.Bosa stood on the sidelines while the play happened. Little did he know at the time, there were bigger things for him to come in South Florida.

Bosa quickly developed into one of college football’s top defensive linemen in the mid 1980s. Desperately seeking defensive help, the Miami Dolphins selected Bosa as the team’s first round pick in 1987. His career got off to a bad start and never recovered. It started with a lengthy contract holdout, costing him valuable practice time in training camp. Nagging injuries slowed down his progress and he never developed into the player the Dolphins envisioned. Just one year later in 1988, the Dolphins selected Eric Kumerow as their first round pick out of Ohio State. Kumerow’s career was erringly similar to Bosa’s. He also showed up late to training camp and couldn’t escape the injury bug. Both Bosa and Kumerow lasted just 3 NFL seasons.

Off the field, life wasn’t easy for Bosa and Kumerow. As first round draft picks they felt enormous pressure from the fans and the media to succeed. They were constantly reminded of their failures everywhere they went. They couldn’t pick up the newspaper, listen to the radio or even go to the grocery store without hearing criticism. But it also brought them closer together as friends. The two were inseparable and were always hanging out. Kumerow introduced Bosa to his sister Cheryl Kumerow. John and Cheryl eventually got married and settled down in Fort Lauderdale. They had two sons Joey and Nick.

Bosa never put pressure on his sons to play football. Instead, it was the opposite. It was the Bosa boys who constantly begged their dad to sign them up for youth football. The turning point was when they joined the Pembroke Pines Bengals Optimist Club and quickly became dominant players from day one. Joey and Nick eventually went on to spectacular success at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, where they were both 5-star recruits. When it was time to choose a college, there was never any doubt where the Bosa Brothers would attend. Instead of following in their dad’s footsteps to Boston College or playing locally at Miami or any of the Florida schools, the Bosas chose to attend Ohio State, where their mom and uncle Eric attended. Joey and Nick went on to become All Americans and NFL first round draft picks. Joey is considered one of the league’s top young pass rushers with the Chargers, while Nick was recently selected as the second overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers

Life after football has been good to John Bosa. Unlike many young football players, he didn’t spend his money recklessly. Instead he invested his earnings in local real estate and businesses. Shortly after his Dolphin career ended, he rented out a building in South Beach and started his own gym with Kumerow. It became a big success and soon spawned other fitness facilities around South Florida. He and Kumerow eventually sold the business and got a huge return on their investment. Kumerow eventually moved back home to Chicago. His son Jake Kumerow is currently a receiver for the Green Bay Packers. While Bosa and Kumerow share many scars from their once-promising careers, they can now relax and watch their sons begin their own NFL journeys.

Yes, bit of a surprise Jones to Giants. The locals haven’t been overly enamoured by the decision either.

For my sins, I’m a Bengals follower, and we picked up Ryan Finley in the 4th round, and many pundits think he’s likely to be just as good as Jones at #6. Mental.

Seems the Giants have tried to find someone with the same laid back mentality as Eli. Considering that hasn’t worked for about 8 years now maybe they should’ve been looking to change up their system.

As for Kyler Murray. Kids got talent, clearly. But I get the feeling teams are looking for the next Russell Wilson. But I can’t see Murray doing what Wilson does.

Likewise they want the next Mahomes - but he a unique generational talent. So Murray won’t be anywhere near as good as him.

I think Murray might flop. Haskins at the Redskins will be interesting to watch as he’ll be a starter for sure. Just don’t think the QB class this year was very good. Next year is meant to be much better.
