Franchise is essentially a license granted to an individual or company to provide for the public. First Bus are a franchise as is every major shop/store. I grew up in kingswood and even though the 15ers had the edge in numbers in the eighties /early nineties that isn’t the case anymore and haven’t been for years. The pub I started drinking in at 17 the lord Rodney was supposed to be gas but was always 50/50 even back then. The only true gas pub I know of is the flower pot Used to play darts over in Kingswood sometimes in the Redfield and District League and I always got the impression Kingswood was sag territory

I love how wound up the sags get over the year appearing on the badge. They really seem to take pride in hurling '1982' as an insult. Personally I couldn't care less - if a club formed in 1982 as they say, has surpassed them in every way in our relatively short existence, that started with terrible financial trouble, surely it's embarrassing for them, not us?? Exactly my point when this gets thrown at me, I always ask what they have won in the same time period compared to us I usually then get the "You've got no history" nonsense thrown back at me, so I would end with "You're right, you have a history of moving grounds since '82"

I really don't get how it's an insult. Since we were 'reformed' in '82 the Gas have achieved virtually nothing of national importance, minus the odd lower league promotion at Wembley. They are best known amongst lower league supporters for their dreadful 'stadium' and their relegation to non-league. Hearing some Sunderland fans opinions on the Mem had me in stitches. Whilst we've yet to achieve promotion, since '82 City have had many good moments: reaching the play off final 2008, new stadium, memorable cup run 2018/19 etc.

TRL
Hate the new robin design,. To me not much effort has gone in. It could have been far more striking, hey ho it is what it is. But I can't argue with the advertising. If we are to live in a world where money rules football so be it. If it gets more cash into the coffers then that has to be good for SL and BS. Still not going to home matches though.

TV Tom
Haven’t gone through all the posts but for what it’s worth my view is that the new design is a vast improvement, ( I met someone who confused us with Barnsley) all I would add to the badge would be Brunel’s masterpiece in the background

Yes you’re right. Used to go in the Rodney and Albert a lot , also the bell/ ushers as we used to call it. As far as the worlds ends concerned it was aptly named and no loss imo . Sad though , they were great pubs especially the Rodney

The World's End was once a great pub. My grandad lived in Hudds Vale Road from the 1930s when St George was fit for habitation. A beautiful place then. Seriously. Although by the time I first went to the pub in the 80s it seemed to be in terminal decline. Piano, free roast potatoes on the bar. Once. Shame.
