Matty Taylor wasting time

Matty Taylor against Wigan while 2-1 up decided to have a short corner to try to keep possession and promptly lost possession and as we know they went down the other end and got an equalizer,

Last night while through on goal decided to head for the corner instead of scoring, Sir Geoff Hurst in the world cup final in the same position thought that he would just hit it as hard as he could and if it went wide it would waste time but in fact flew into the net for his hat-trick.

As a Striker shouldn't Matty have tried to score ? This holding on and not trying to score another goal is not good, in fact if Matty had have scored 4-2 sounds a lot better than 3-2 lets have some guts and try to score when we have a chance rather than just keep possession if you have a chance to score TAKE IT !

All about winning the game.  It wasn't an easy chance anyway he was on a angle and there was a defender coming across. Certainly the right decision.

No, I and most around me were screaming at him to take it to the corner when he was bearing down on goal. It was a tight angle and there was a defender covering, the odds were against him scoring. If he missed and the ball came back into play that's one player we'd have in front of the ball when we were already getting overran, it was selfless and without a doubt the right move. The reaction when he won the throw-in was priceless as well, it's nice to see that the club's best interests were put first and not personal gain.

I’m with you on this and pointed out last night! Although, another thread said it was great game management! ?

So how would you of felt had he shot straight at the keeper and they went straight down the other end and scored?

Saturday was the *only* time *all* season we've dropped points in the last 15 minutes of games.  These things happen.   MT was absolutely right to run it into the corner as he did.

In life you have options. On this occasion Taylor not only ran to the corner flag won a throw and prevaricated taking it so long the match was finished to all intents and purposes. Fantastic professionalism. He could of shot but 92:30 it was the right thing to do. Well Done MT ******* legend.

I’d ban teams deliberately taking the ball to the corner and trying to prevent the other team getting the ball - it really isn’t in the spirit of the game at all.

About 25 years ago defenders were banned from endlessly passing the ball back to the goalkeeper to pick it up and I don’t think many yearn for a return to those days.

Hindsight proves he did the right thing and he took a booking to run down the clock by fannying around with the throw-in.

Our Matt the Gnat irritates the hell out of the opposition.

Thought it was a great piece of play and showed his experience and nouse. Surprised that anyone would question it.

He's one of them strikers who doesn't know where the goal is, mate. Sadly. Why he never scores. People have been saying this on here since he come here. His movement is quality, mind. And he hates Rovers, don't forget.

No, because the commentator clearly stated, "and its Taylor, some City fans think its all over. Well, it will be if he doesnt run the ball into the bloody corner."

Big part of the game is trying not to let the other team have the ball, bollucks to the spirit of the game , he done the professional thing

Not criticizing Taylor, and of course everyone does it and will continue to do it provided it stays within the rules. The question is, should it be within the rules? I don’t think it should be.

Let’s encourage and reward positive play.

It was at that point that we wouldn't lose the game by doing what he did, so defo the correct decision. I just wish Fammy passed it back out on Saturday to Eliasson (I think) who was on the touchline, and we may have had a different result then as well.

You will never stop anyone in the field of play running to the corner, where do you stop them? On the way to the corner flag? When they get there? Impossible to officiate.

As this thread isnt about MT in general but the one run to the corner, I will agree he did the right thing

Surely the bigger picture is anyone of the 15k who went to both games, Wigan and WBA, saw what the enormous difference between Sat (when he did nothing for 60mins) and therefore reduced the impact of our main striker, Fam, and then last night when Weimann was superb for an hour and released Fam to be MoM for the 4th consequtive game (when did that last happen)?

Whilst I appreciate the MT song at  BS3, I believe all those who travel away every week, appreciate MT is a L1player whilst AW is a good Championship player who has already done enough for us to justify his costs.

Hoping MT can pop in some important goals in the POs though

On what basis has he been MOM for last 4 games. Certainly not the official one.

Ah right, so you’re opinion.
