Yeah let's see what they get being relegated consecutively to the bottom of the fourth tier and nearly going out of business. What was their attendance in their last game at Eastville? Says it all really when all their fans are up for is a good piss up on away days and they have been shit at that last few season too.

Strangely, Dr Clarke omits in his excellent biography any reference to his having visited The Gas & them inspiring his epic poem.

As for, "Beauty problems are redefined," I couldn't have put it better myself.

See Joey has decided to overcome the goal scoring issues from last season with a new formation based entirely on season ticket sales.

Out of interest, what were their season ticket sales in the last normal season I.e. 19/20?  Just wondered how this compared?

Celebrating selling a poxy 3300 STs when they bore opposition fans to death with how supposedly loyal they are. Utterly tragic.

Dont forget they were recently trying to impress Barton by saying they’ll be taking 2000 away everywhere next season. 🤣

As for this absolute nugget, in answer to his question “how many did we have in division 4?”

Answer: more than the Gas were getting in the 3rd division at the time. 🤣

How many did we have in Division 4? Not many, but then not (as) many went to football anywhere around the country in the early 80s because football was very unpopular, reviled even, and nothing like the fashionable thing it is today (which trickles down from the PL through the divisions), something they'll all take in to consideration on g4s chat when making their unbiased, unselective comparisons I do not doubt.

Wrexham in the National (non) league in 2019, for example, averaged more than Rovers in Division 3 a couple of times in the 80s.

Some other average attendances from around that time 1982/83:

Arsenal, 24,000

Chelsea, 12,000 (in 2nd division)

Everton, 20,200

Leeds, 15,900 (2nd div)

Liverpool, 34000

Newcastle, 17000

Man City, 26000

Man Utd, 41,000

Sheff Weds, 16k  (in 2nd).

Cardiff, 7,036 (when they were promoted, from Div 3).

So as we can see, if we are inclined to, crowds were considerably smaller everywhere, when we were in Div 4. Everywhere except Bristol Rovers, interestingly, where crowds around 82-83 were just a little bit smaller than they are nowadays. But then their crowds never have been big enough to have been significantly smaller at some other point.

They do this shit every year, don’t they?

Some load of bulk signings (4 today) that no one has ever heard of pretty soon after the previous season ends, their fans start up the “we’re going places” stuff (you are, Sutton United) & some of our more intellectually challenged pipe up with “why haven’t we signed anyone”?

Went well last year, didn’t it?

Looked into Sam Finley background - Rovers are his 8th Club (including loans) at the age of 28

Played for giants like - Southport, Warrington, AFC Fylde, The New Saints (<---watch the saggies roll out "Champions League experience" there, conveiniently failing to acknowledge it was probably in a complete spanking on aggregrate in the first qualifying round!)

The wikipedia article on him makes no mention of a transfer fee (at any time) just lots of "released" and "free transfer"

Oh and I found this - not the most reliable source, but from wikipedia:

In April 2020, Finley picked up an 8 match ban as a result of an investigation around a comment made to Rochdale's former Irish international Paul McShane, during a League One fixture on New Year's day 2020, regarding McShane's nationality.

Never heard of him, so did a quick Google - hardly a stellar career by the look of it.

Bit then again when you're fishing in the type of ponds the Sags are beggars can't be choosers.

Is this the type of signing that'll start all that "coming for you" gumph again?

Tossers...

All free transfers - surely not the sort of thing the 6th richest club in the world do?

Maybe Wally has spent all his money on the Stadium opening in August 🤣

Tbf to the sags, I usually check their players based on forums of other clubs, from what I can remember the initial reactions from fans for their signings last season, in comparison to how they ended up playing, based on one or two sag mates was the following:

Grant: Meh, better in midfield than defence. Seemed to fulfill that, couple shockers but generally just fine.

Baldwin: Sunderland fans hated him basically, very error-prone, fulfilled that at the sags

Ehmer: Rated highly by Gillingham fans, awful at the sags, lost his place in the team after being made captain (says a lot given how shite they were)

Nicholson: Generally unknown. From all accounts the sags' best player last season.

Ayunga: Goal record said it all beforehand and was apparently ass, which is to be expected when you sign a player who only 2 years beforehand scored something like 1 in 4 in the Conference.

Westbrooke: Rated by Coventry, underperformed at Rovers but got better apparently

Tutonda: Rated by Barnet, did well first couple games then Tisdale came in and basically never played again.

Hanlan: Gillingham fans laughed their heads off, was awful apparently, and all my gas mates said he started off okay at best and then scored like 1 in his last 30

Williams: Fine and played fine

McCormick: Unknown, one of their best players it seems

Oztumer: Rated by Walsall but not rated whatsoever by Bolton, played awfully

Initial thoughts from fans of previous clubs on these 4 seem to be:

Coutts: Rated highly

Hughes: Rated highly but old

Finley: Rated highly but very hot-headed

Can't even remember and can't be bothered to look up the last one's name, but he started last season captain at Carlisle and ended it backup to a 20 year old. Apparently he's dog. The one to look out for, the rest seem fine. Coutts is a decent signing in particular.

Looks like Barton 67854 is getting his players in early. Wonder what the rush is?
