Is this the game where the locks were cut off the night before,but had been replaced so all the lads without tickets had to climb over the gates when it went up. I also remember one Saturday afternoon when Sheffield UTD 'invaded' the East End in large numbers: they were finally chased out, but not before 'allegedly' hitting one City fan with an axe would you believe. Remember one Saturday Birmingham game. They walked them all down and back from Parson St along Winterstoke Rd and it all went off in that little park on the corner. It didn`t have a fence around it then or the kiddies play equipment, it was just a bit of green space with a few trees. Mayhem it was. My recollection is that pre-segregation Birmingham did a 'proper job' on the East End as did to a lesser degree, I think, Huddersfield. My 12 year old nephew's first game in Dolman Block A, with wooden seats (with metal fixings) flying over our heads, a guy sat next to us with his leather jacket shredded down the back from top to bottom having gone in the Millwall end (FFS), brawling fans at the top of the stairs. Never seen anything like it, before or after, anywhere in or outside a ground or any form of public gathering. The entire Park from outside the ground to the Cumberland Basin, the surrounding subways, hills and roads rammed full of rioting mobs. The police had totally lost control. It wasn't hundreds but thousands at it that day. Surprisingly, didn't put him off though as now a season ticket holder with his son. Correct - they had a 'go' but got sussed as they came in , and got mullered as they came in by the turnstile area by the old Williams Its recounted in at least one Gooners 70s/ 80s book They admit that they came full of swagger to teach the country bumpkins a lesson after City invaded Highbury on that infamous August day , but got a bit of a shock !!!
