We get treble their average with 447 to spare.

For absolute fairness though we should probably take a look at what our average was in the last season that we were in a similar position to where they currently are. The last time we were high up in L1 was obviously the season we won it - 2014/15. Looking around at a few sources, including those already used it looks as though we averaged 12,056 at home in the league over the whole season. Highest attendance was over 13,700 for Yeovil on Boxing Day.

There's an argument that we could have had a higher gate as at the start of that season the Wedlock was demolished - although our max capacity was still around 16,000 at that stage so realistically this probably didn't have a huge affect on our attendances.

I’m pretty certain our capacity was around 13.5k that season?

Add in to that the fact only Swindon and Yeovil sold out the away end iirc we definitely sold out most home games that season

You may well be right - just looked up the official match report and from the highlights it shows the end sections of the Dolman, and presumably the Williams netted off. I remembered those stands as being unaffected until later in the rebuild.

Anyway, the point is that even with 3/4 of a stadium we averaged 50% more than that lot are currently managing...although tbf even 3/4 of a stadium is a vast improvement on 4 tents and a gazebo.

Correct.

The following campaign we spent most of the season in and around the bottom 3 only ensuring our survival in the Championship with 2 games to spare. That season we officially had the most ‘full’ stadium, on average, outside of the Premier League.

The capacity was reduced to around the 15k mark but considering Rovers barely get above 7k Gasheads at home when they’re doing well it’s clear that City fans are far more loyal to our club, even when we’re in a relegation battle for an entire season.

We didn’t have a 16000 capacity that season. The capacity of the Dolman was reduced throughout the season and we even lost the lower tier of the stand by January.

As JBFCII correctly points out, we sold out the home tickets for most of our games that season.

Yep, I forgot about the other stands being affected.

Let’s not forget when we were bottom of league one, playing awful football under SOD our attendances still didn’t drop under the 10k mark....

Surely you have failed to use the "Bristol Rovers Play Off attendance calculator".

Last time they actually averaged a more than 10K attendance was in 1976.

Ahh, that would account for the nostalgic and general hoboness of their rank ugly and pitiful fan base then. Shell suits, tank tops and flares, all very 1970's. As out of date as their stale crisps, Frankie Prince poster and Chasers night club canopy.

I see the Bears had 26,399  for the game against Bath. So the two best supported teams in Bristol play at Ashton Gate. Didn't the egg chasers average 16,000 last season ? If the women's team continue to improve on their attendances that would make the Chernobyl residents Bristol 4th team.

The blue few I work with are some how trying to sit on their high horse this morning congratulating Ashton Gate for the biggest attendance for a sporting event, thinking somehow that it’ll piss us off, then stating it couldn’t be city tho as we were all in Luton being racist.
This from a club who evicted Bristol rugby from their spiritual home and certainly have their fair share of bigots.
They also claimed they’d get four times their attendance had they a bigger ground.
We both lost on Saturday, we’re pissed off, they’re happy cus the rugby generated a bigger crowd than the football.
*****.

You could remind them it wasn’t the biggest attendance for a sporting event at Ashton Gate - I was in a crowd of nearly 39,000 when we played Liverpool at home in the late seventies ... and that still wasn’t our record crowd ...

A club that hasn’t averaged 10k in the last 40 odd years would suddenly average 28k in a bigger ground even though they can’t fill their current tented structure?. Gaslogic at its very finest...

Are you sure you haven't missed a 2 off the front of the 563, do you think the "we will take loads coz that's what we do" statement might not be true ???

What Gasheads really should say is...”we take around 400-500 to most away matches, which is definitely nothing to boast about but that won’t stop us because inside our over inflated balloon heads that’s a ‘massive’ amount, unless da shit take the same number somewhere up North, then we call it embarrassing...it’s what we do...”
