120 years ago Bedminster (who merged with Bristol South End) finished below Bristol Eastville Rovers in the Western League Premier on goal average.

3rd place that season was Southampton. 1st place was Swindon and 2nd was Bristol St George (now Roman Glass St George- Bristol's oldest football club) a team who have never bettered their performance of that season, despite the Western Premier now being the 9th tier.

It's not even close either. 11 years in it.

"Roman Glass St George Football Club is a football club based in the Bristol suburb of St George, Bristol, England. Founded in 1872, they are the oldest club in Bristol."

Was it on the 29th April 1899 for the Southern League Championship final game at St Johns Lane, between Bristol City v Southampton?

City lost 3.4 , being 2 up by halftime, Southampton scoring 4 in the second half with late consolation goal by City.

Attendance was 16,000, but City had the stiff breeze behind them in the first half and was fighting against it in the second half.

Langham, O'Brien and Caie scored for City and Chadwick, Wood[2] and MaClean for Southampton.
