First thing Johnson needs to do

Pato had some nice touches but he has no end product. I thought the reason footballers earn so much more than the rest of us is because they are better at those kind of things than us. I literally would've been as effective as Paterson in front of goal today.

Pato made all his chances himself. He terrorised the Derby defence.

First thing LJ needs to do is get the team to score more goals, pretty simple.

Need another quality forward, not quantity. I’d even throw in an AMF if Palmer goes back to his parent club.

Another winger if COD is to leave. We haven’t scored enough to really challenge.

That doesn't change the fact that he has no end product.

At least he made chances to have a shot. Some times he catches them beautifully.

Bit weird slating our best player today.

For next season is widen the pitch.

Pitch far to narrow this season thats why away teams have found it easy to contain us and why we havn't been able to play high press flowing football.

He said the same thing himself in one of the Radio Bristol pre match chats in the past month, can’t remember which game.

Find it amazing that 50% of tonight’s posters were nowhere to be seen when we were on our winning run. I realise it’s just frustration and disappointment, but you do wonder whether some of tonight’s posters aren’t secretly happier when we lose.

I think on reflection you will find that this old saw is simply fake news

All fans want success but it is more than frustrating when owners and manager promise much and fail to deliver

Perhaps the plan is for Adelakun to step up? Unless he thinks Watkins, a truly baffling signing, is going to be the answer? 😉

Why the **** are people knocking Johnson. I bet most of those doing the knocking thought we were going down before the season started.

Well done, LJ. I've enjoyed the season, loads of "experts" had us to either to go down or be biting our nails.

How could this be anything other than a decent season.

There are a handful who absolutely revel in it, no doubt about that.

I thought he did alright on the whole, but it was frustrating how, in such a pivotal game, his shooting was so lacklustre. He needs to improve on four goals in a season.

Kamara was saying the pitch is huge and suits teams who sit back and counter.

First thing is to get rid of Diedhiou and get a striker in

Fammy is what he is, likeable & a great bloke whose good within the group..the harsh reality is if we could do so & get back most of what we paid for him & speculate, yes speculate in a 'bona fide goalscorer I'd be with you all the way-but sadly we wouldn't get most of those ££ back...

Maybe that says a lot..

See Cowshed’s reply....saved me typing it.

Also he needs to stop with the reactive subs. Make the necessary changes when you see the weaknesses. Personally thought Eliasson needed to replace Weimann or Paterson 10 min before the goal. Weimann looked really clumsy all game. Paterson thought was good but not played in ages and thought that was evident after an hour

Agree Joe.  We put a lot of effort into the opening 15-20 minutes of the second half, and a couple of players starting to fatigue, that was the time to bring subs on, not after Semenyo sent off.

Sorry but Paterson was excellent

He had a good game today.

Bristol City do not play with a high press. Bristol City very frequently play from a midfield block.

A narrower pitch makes it easier to play a high pressing game as there is less space to control.

Ta, saved me typing it.

Yeah he's a likable guy but he looks like a non league player in games. He'd be ok to keep as 2nd or 3rd choice I guess

Fam was poor today.  I watched him a lot today, so static.  Waghorn ran his nuts off, got away with “afters” on virtually every challenge.  Think Garner might’ve given him a few tips at Ipswich!!!  Fam on his heels too much today so that if the ball isn’t perfect he struggles to adjust his balance.

I like Fam, he is unselfish, but if someone offered me £5m for him I’d take it.  In fairness in today’s market, he ought to fetch us a profit.  A 1 in 3 (roughly @BS4 on Tour..., I won’t do the maths tonight) scorer, is worth more than £5m in the Champ.

Bobby Reid (and Weimann In August), showed that you don’t have to have a big-man.  We miss movement so much.  It’s partly why we have to play sideways too often.

Marlon had a better game, but that coaching video of LJ doing the Marlon no-look pass, has gone to his head.  He’s looking for it every time.  Often it’s the hardest pass option he has, and he fails to complete it.

I’m pretty frustrated tonight, but cognisant that it’s been a good season....but we have (sort of) wasted a good position when we got to 5th with games in hand.

Johnson ballsed up massively in my opinion. Left Eliasson - one of the Championship's best players in my opinion - on the bench, and picked Paterson, who couldn't hit a cow's ass with a banjo, and Semenyo who is naive and hardly Championship quality.

I agree, don’t get the blinkers regarding pato. He’s had two weeks off but did very little . Unless you like a player that gets the ball, runs into traffic , spins around then gets pushed off the ball. His stats must be one bit of proper quality every 25-30 games. Not good enough.

He works hard which is all we ask as fans and I’d never slag him off during a game or when he pulls our shirt on , but I do question LJ’s opinion of him.

Good post. And yes, he does seem like a great lad, but he's simply not consistent enough.

That's the problem with him, he's too static. Yes he'll have a game when he causes defenders problems but that isn't often and on the whole easy to mark. Reid has been the player we've missed most with his pressing, movement and link up play.

We are 8th in the championship, a league full of teams with more pulling power and more money than us. Yes we may miss out on the play offs this year, but the fact people are disappointed by that is delusional en ridiculous. Where you around when we were a league one staple?

Understand it's disappointing but a serious reality.checn is needed by alot of fans. Were a good team.

In hindsight (bit of foresight too), I do wonder whether Weimann would’ve been any less effective than Fam as the lone man up top?  Think it would’ve forced us to pass and move more, like with Reid.

That's what I'd have done. Weimann only has a couple of goals less despite playing with the majority of the season. Certainly has more pace and movement so would probably cause defenders more of a problem

When Diedhiou came back into the side last season our form slumped. Maybe just coincidence

Paterson was immense today I thought. Though for 60 minutes. His last 15 I thought he was tired.

Agree with the sentiment though. Eliasson is a match winner and LJ has messed about with his minutes. Eliasson does feel very erratic but feel he works hard enough and makes generally the right decisions. So in that case, personally, feel like he should be in the starting XI most weeks. He may cost a few goals over a season but is worth many more the other way.

Funny thing is we bought him and LJ has said he was searching similar players to Knockheart at Brighton. Actually feel that is an apt comparison now and we have essentially played a player of the season type talent half the season.

Think LJ needs to find a better balance between application and genuine footballers. We have a lot of versatile grafters. Which is a big reason we have done so well this season. That said, when you see a team like today with specialist players(Mount an AM, Wilson a RW, Lawrence a LW/AM) you can’t help but think we lack talent compared to other top 10 sides. The 3 I mentioned aren’t so versatile but felt much more clinical. They didn’t seem like they wasted much possession. Whereas it has felt all season we run out of ideas in the final third and lose a lot of possession.

I think that's a bit harsh. SL has done wonders for us!!

I was angry. Both have their good qualities. SL has done loads for the club but still seems to play it too safe. We know we have good assets now. Surely we can gamble a bit more in summer knowing if it doesn’t work we can balance the books with a couple sales. Think we can do it with our model

Don’t ask me Dave - maths ain’t my strong point!  But last time I posted about Fam’s goals per game record on here I was shouted down by lots saying you can’t look at goals per game anymore, it’s minutes per goal that counts now! Not for me - at the end of any career an outfield player’s record is shown as number of games, then number of goals - simple as that...

Give LJ a break, he's still very young in management terms.....

He’s young in age but he ain’t inexperienced - he’s managed well over 300 games now - and he’s way more experienced (in terms of games as manager) than other gaffers such as Alex Neil, Nuno Espírito Santo, Marco Silva, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Daniel Farke - etc, etc.

He trots out the ‘young, still developing, one for the future’ stuff about his players - but that can’t be said about him anymore, he is not an inexperienced manager anymore ....
