Podcasts - what do you suggest?

Recommended Posts

My regular ones are in no particular order:

- OSIB - run by Stan on here. A good subjective (usually) round up of all things City, and has an active following.

- The rugby pod with Jim Hamilton and Andy Goode, never fails to make me laugh!

- The Guardian football weekly, twice weekly roundup of big European and premier league football with some very good journalists as guests

- Flats and Shanks, a rugby podcast with David Flatman and Tom Shanklin, about 50% rugby and 50% just a couple of mates chatting about anything and everything - although its better than it sounds!

- Magic Sponge with Jimmy Bullard - Rob Beckett annoys me a bit on this, but the episode with David Noble (Cliff diving with Graham Stack) was hilarious!

- That Peter Crouch Podcast - Crouchie, Chris Stark and Tom Fordyce chat all things football, Crouch comes across as a genuine nice bloke!

Granted these are all football/rugby centric but this is OTIB after all!

Gary Linekar and Danny Baker Behind Closed Doors - Very funny and informative. Linekar is a lot looser on this.

Case Files - All about horrific murders, very factual.

Caliphate - New York Times journalist interviews someone from Isis.

Agree with this, one of my favourites.

Al Murray (pub landlord bloke) does quite an interesting WW2 one

As much as I hate to say it as I normally like the bloke, the Peter Crouch one just came across as far too smug for me, really didn't get on with it.

In terms of football content, The Football Ramble makes me laugh and previews the weeks games on a Thursday and debriefs the matches on a Monday. The Totally Football League show is less amusing but covers the Championship and below. I find them to be some of the most knowledgeable pundits and their views on City are normally pretty accurate.

Hardcore History - not as sexy as it sounds and the episodes are VERY long. But they are incredible if you like history.

The Parapod - two comedians, one a believer in the paranormal and one a sceptic. They discuss ghosts, aliens and all sorts of other topics and it’s hilarious.

Kermode and Mayo - if you like movies then this is a must listen.

Hardcore History is absolutely incredible. Ideal if you take long train trips or flights. Supernova in the East was particularly enlightening I thought.

I'd echo many of the suggestions on here. My addition would be that if you don't mind a heavy dose of smut, sexual language, and general rudeness then My Dad Wrote a Porno is at times eye-wateringly funny. Start with series 1.

I find there is a dearth of decent EFL coverage, at least without being overrun by betting ads (the bane of football podcasts) but agree that the TFL Show is decent, especially given they are trying to cover 72 clubs in an hour a week.

OSIB is honestly very good. Stan, Rob, Oscar and the others all talk passionately and bring different perspectives to following City. I'm biased as a patreon and very occasional away fan sound diary contributor but it's genuinely the best out there if you're after Bristol City specific coverage. Robins on the Wire is ok, but is basically just Michelle and Gregor reading the Bristol post for 20 minutes.

Caliphate is brilliant.

Scrubs is excellent too.

Also very much like / liked: Criminal, Atlanta Monster, Beyond Reasonable Doubt and End of Days.

May sound really out of touch, but what is a podcast?

I've seen the word banded about a few times, but have no understanding what it is, or how I can watch / listen to one?

Generally just an episodic audio programme usually (but not always) based around a specific subject.

You download or stream them the same way you would music.

I suppose Lineker and Baker podcast will be gone soon!

It's not a BBC production though is it? I think it is made by Goalhanger which is Lineker's own production outfit. Hopefully won't be affected by recent events.

Hope so too, Goalhanger would suggest that it's Gary's production company but just wonder if BBC will put pressure on GL to stay away from DB, really hope not as it's one of my not to be missed podcasts

Man I got sucked down the rabbit hole of Joe Rogan podcasts over Christmas, was listening to them for days!

There's just so much content that you have enough to listen to for literally years. I probably listen to 1-5% of his podcasts but that is enough to keep me going indefinitely.

, agreed mate, I try to pick more wisely now, and don't listen on YouTube as it just rolls straight into another one!

Elis James and John Robins, from episode 1, double retro oner here.

I'm on email. You simply have to be these days.

I blame myself for that ending. I started listening and they quit a few months later.

Hopefully their new project keeps Made Up Games, mostly just for the theme song.
