Bristol’s newest football team

Allow me to introduce Bristol’s newest football team : Bristol Sands Utd FC

Made up of blokes and their families who’ve suffered the devasting impact of babyloss, Bristol Sands Utd FC has been set up by one the committee members of Bristol Sands - the Stillbirth and Neo-Natal Death Society - to try and reach out to guys who find it hard to talk about their experience in a more formal setting. Using football and shared experiences to break down barriers we hope to get men talking about babyloss and the impact it has had on them.

Statistically there will be plenty of guys on here who have been through this, myself included. Our daughter, Elizabeth, was born sleeping in March 2012. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about her and only yesterday I ran the Bristol 10k to raise funds for Bristol Sands.

So. If you’re a bereaved parent, or your close family have been affected too, and you fancy a kickabout with others who just understand, feel free to get in touch. PM more for more details.

Here’s a few links to give you some more info about the football team, Bristol Sands and our fundraising efforts

What a brilliant way of bringing people together - well done @CyderInACan - if I can help in any way please let me know ....

Thankyou - I am but a mere cog in the machinery and although it's early days we've already been on the John Darvall show on Radio Bristol and Neil Maggs' show on BCFM and in the Evening Post as above. We're due to be on Radio Bristol again this morning and have Points West interested as well as Neil Maggs wanting to do another piece. There's a lot of interest which is great as - if nothing else - it raises awareness.

Several people on here and offline have offered to donate towards kit etc so one of the things I am looking into is a crowdfunding page.

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments so far and any suggestions, recommendations or anything that could help would be great.

It's great to see this solidarity. My deepest sympathy goes out to anyone that has ever had to experience babyloss, or the many complications that can arise from childbirth.

Bumping this as not only do we have our first training session arranged but we are still looking for more players so please feel free to PM if you are interested. Our first game looks as though it will be an international friendly against Cardiff Sands Utd FC :englandflag:
