Next season's Euro leagues.

Players don't get too long for holidays.

The first games in the Champions League are in a month's time. Four teams play a min league that forms the Preliminary Round. Then on June 25th it's the first qualifying round. Celtic, Linfield and Dundalk are in at this stage. So too are TNS, but unlike the Scots and Irish, the Welsh team is seeded, so get a favourable draw.

The Europa League starts two days later. The first qualifying round has some British interest; Glasgow Rangers, the SPL 3rd placed team and the Scottish cup winners, Connah's Quay from Wales, Crusaders from NI and Cork, Shamrock & St Patricks from the RoI. Ballymena & Cliftonville (both NI) and Barry (Wales) enter in the Preliminary Round.

The current Euro competitions do my head in as the draw is totally corrupt, especially the ‘so called’ Champions League. Teams that are Champions of Sod All get preferential treatment, this year’s final has two of them, going straight into the group stages or at worst having to negotiate one qualifier while true Champions of their country have to endure endless qualifying rounds at a time of year when the players should be enjoying their holidays. It’s about time the ‘Champions League’ was limited to just that ‘Champions’ not bl**dy also rans, without any seeding whatsoever just a straight draw. UEFA should be seeking to improve the standard of football across Europe by giving all teams a chance to coin money by playing the big boys but instead the whole competition is designed to ensure the rich clubs get richer and the poorer ones are kept in their place.

The Europa League is just bonkers, rewarding failure by giving ‘failed’ Champions League clubs a second chance late in the competition which is already too large. If you enter in Rd1 you have to play 19 games to win it, another half a season!

UEFA formed  The Champions League to prevent a breakaway by the (then) top clubs. Europe's top 14 clubs (Arsenal & Man U from England) threatened to form their own league if they were not guaranteed Euro qualification. Four Italian teams demanded automatic entry to the Champions League "due to their heritage & pedigree" regardless of where they finished in their league.

UEFA should have held their nerve and warned clubs that if they broke away, any one who played for them would be banned from all other competitions, meaning their players could only be transferred to others in the break away league. They'd also have been banned from their domestic league and cup competitions.

This afternoon, it kicked off at 5.15, Bala Town host Cardiff Met Uni with the winners qualifying for the Europa league.

Bala lost on penalties. This means whilst Cardiff City have been relegated from the Prem, Cardiff Uni will be playing in the Europa League.
