Favourite City Songs

What's everyone's favourite song been at the Gate over the years? Mine was our version of wonderwall with Goodridge and Goater

I remember, before the Scott, Scott super Scott song for Scott Murray, we used to sing Scotland the brave, that was good.

My all time favourite has to be Tom Thumb or Allouette back in the day.

Wasn’t it sung for Martin Kuhl?

I used to love

we’re just one of those teams that you see now and then

you’ve seen us before and you’ll see us again

we’ll drink all your whiskey and bottles of brown

the east end boys are in town

Haven’t heard it for at least 3 seasons now

He’s only a poor little gas head, his face was all tattered and torn, he made me feel sick, so I hit him with a brick, and now he don’t sing any more

Neither have I that's a thought. That's got to be one we get going next season, much better than the songs we sing at home nowadays :P

This one as well...

The east end boys (x2)....

Are in your town (x2)....

The east end boys are in your town...

We'll drink you beer, and shag your women...

The east end boys are in your town....

God damn we used to be creative!

Can't beat the classics

"You're gonna get your f###ing heads kicked in"

"You're going home in a Bristol ambulance"

"You're going in the river"

Irene (words altered shall we say), sang on College Green after the GJ promotion, full volume and with even the Mayor of Bristol dying not to piss himself laughing.

Appy Days

Only got to sing it for one season unfortunately and quite a recent one too...but i did love :

We love Bristol City, the only team in town.

There used to be the rovers, but now they have gone down.

They only needed one goal, they couldn't manage that.

And now that they are non league...  They have to mind the gap!

Ten men went to burn down Twerton.

One team in Bristol (like when it was belted out at the end of our last promotion season after the open top bus tour at the docks).

Anyone remember that season - very early 80s maybe? - when we were going to sign a couple of players linked with Luton's Bob Hatton, and we were away somewhere, and a chorus of "first we sign Bob Hatton, then we sign ...." someone or other, Mickey Ginn was it? Anyone remember that?

No, me neither.

I rather liked that 'Edelweiss' we adapted for Flinty a year or two ago:

"Aden Flint, Aden Flint

Every match day you greet me

Tall and white, keep it tight,

You look happy to be here

Blossom of SO'D may you bloom and grow,

Bloom and grow for ever,

Aden Flint, Aden Flint...."

Brings tears to me eyes, now. Ashton Gate at its most tender....

Everywhere we gooooooo was always a favourite back in the day

And the Milli Vanilli one

Anyone at Wycombe on a day where it pissed down for hours and we sang 'we got Mickey Bell' for ages before kick off. First attack Bell got tripped in the area, slotted home the pen and it just kept going on for what seemed like the whole game 😂

Also, Orient away chanting 'bring on the Champions' the year we came second. Can't remember who won it in the end 😬

Now that's what I call a football song!!

It's absolutely stunning isn't it? I work with an exiled Hibbee and showed this to him. The poor fella was in tears! It really is sensational.

Best ones we’ve had are usually about players rather than generic city ones...

Steve Jones, Mickey Bell, Flint, Fammy etc. Basically funny and catchy.

Not the droney type ones like the east end have been singing this season.

'It 'im on the 'ead wiv a baseball bat... on the 'ead, on the 'ead... '

Rarely voiced these day, maybe we have all become victims of compassion and understanding.

Best ones include the ‘Fammy’ song - ?! Good grief - you are obviously a young un - that song is utter shite compared to the songs banging out from the REAL East End in the 70s and 80s ...

“Said Bertie Mee to Bill Shankly have you heard of The North Bank, Highbury?”

“Shanks said “no, I don’t think so, but I’ve heard of the East End aggro”

”East, East, East enders...”
