George Best Statue

Having read the BBC report, I was pleased to see this...

If you are ever in Coleraine in County Londonderry, take a look at the bronze Bertie Peacock in the town centre. More than 10 years old, it's a perfect likeness of the ex-Celtic and Northern Ireland player.

The beeb is correct. Having lived in Coleraine for nearly 15 years I can vouch that it really is a good likeness and a great statue too.

Bertie may not have had an airport named after him but he's got a great statue in a prime site!

You would think that the commissioners of such statues would look at the quality of other football related sculptures before granting a licence for bronze butchery. As well as our own John Atyeo statue look at the Bobby Robson statue at Ipswich which is a superb likeness, and better in my opinion of similar statues at Newcastle and Porto.

Looks awful. Just think, somebody actually stopped making that, told themselves it was done and smiled at the fact they'd completed it.

I genuinely think a blind sculptor could do a better job.
