Good news for City, Villa are a big ask for us given the money they piss on talent. Derby could be reeling next season, hopefully lose their manager in summer and Mount and Wilson don’t go back to them, and it’s one less club to worry about next year.

Yep it’s definitely for the greater good in the long run for us. We have as good a chance as anyone next season given who has gone up and come down. Very little to fear next year.  Let’s hope for a good transfer window.

Some of the fees going around for players and Villa picked up McGinn for a little under £3m.

Incredible signing for them.

And people think we ‘don’t have the money for those calibre’

We spent £4m on Eisa and Engvall.

Pretty happy with that, dont rate Derby at all (no wins away from PP v 11 for what, 6 months?) and can see us finally overtaking them next season.

Pleased for Tammy to have success too and lets be honest Villa are not a Champ club

They were until 20 minutes ago

If you believe a club "deserves" to be at any level because of achievements 40 years ago, then we should never be allowed to reach the top flight again.

The quicker the big clubs get back up and we are competing with the likes of Burnley, Palace etc again the more chance we have imo.

They were due to get slaughtered by FFP.

Absolutely slaughtered. At least if the EFL enforced the rules.

Can only echo the Sky coverage superlatives.

Against all the odds. Remarkable achievement by Villa.

Two clubs allowed by the EFL to do whatever they fancy under FFP.

Two clubs unendingly and disproportionately indulged by EFL match officials.

Incredible that they both got here and even more incredible one of them has won it.

What. An. Accomplishment. To do it with the deck continually stacked against everyone else.

Fair play, that is quite some achievement. Hope the EFL get the credit they deserve before long too.

Sorry?    What do you mean by that ?

If clubs are always seen as "deserving" to be in a certain division based on things that happened over a generation ago, then no club ever "deserves" to improve themself.

If we take that attitude to the extreme, Preston "deserve" to be competing for the title every season, because they won the first ever football league title.

Clubs like us will never "deserve" to become an established top flight side should we ever do so, and Forest Green will never "deserve" to establish themselves as a league side.

Who said anything about 'deserving'?

This game sums up every thing that is disproportionately wrong with the EFL.

Despite their unpopularity no one would grumble if this was leeds or a friendly West Brom. This thread would merely be about the match. But the fact it's vile and FLDC tells you all you need to know.

It's a crying shame that the "winner" will not only enjoy the massive Sky Premier League riches but also escape EFL FFP punishment (whatever that is). If ever there was a case for the flagrant disregard of FFP then here it is with the two "finalists" which really should be a showcase for everything that is good about the Championship not the two best at bending the rules clubs .

I really hope something can be done to not only ensure clubs adhere to FFP but also to stop this "gambling" on success.

Well it was a paraphrase of you saying "let's be honest Villa are a top flight club"....

I didnt even say that James. Do you agree or disagree that in the long run we have more chance of promotion against a historically top 6 club (as Wilder said) with 35k paying fans or against a club with lesser resources?

You did say that, ok what I said wasn't verbatim, but you said "Villa aren't a Champ club". Same meaning different wording, or will you now argue you were suggesting they are a League 1 club?

As I said already, Villa are/were due to get some serious FFP punishment if they didn't go up.

They would have had to sell Grealish, their star player who they struggled to win without, just to get close to compliance.
