No thanks

They'd trash the ground and no matter what the score we wouldn’t win

Would rather we never played them again

I know I quoted it before, but I thought it warranted a little space of it's own .

I wouldn't mind seeing a "Bristol Cup"  during pre-season, where a handful of Bristol teams, including us and the horse-punchers, play a straight knockout tournament.

Put our U18/U21's out, and see how far the kids go. It can "officially" be our first-team, but we wouldn't be the first club to play two friendly games at the same time, and adding extra dates for the fans to play local teams can only be a good thing.

We usually do a community match, so this would just be a continuation of this, where we play a random selection of these teams each year, and ease some of our less-than-fit lads into first-team football near the end.

As we only have a chance of getting GASH at the MIGHTY Ashton Gate, is in a cup

Would anybody want a friendly at start of season?

Unfortunately due to lack of funding for the Police, they wouldn’t have enough of them to cover the police escort that the Fewers request from them 30mins before KO.

Nothing to gain from playing them in a friendly match. If we draw them in a proper competition then do be it, we’d wipe the floor with them as our chaps would be right up for it and their superior abilities would shine through. But in a friendly match, it would lack the blood and thunder 100% intensity of a meaningful fixture - and that is asking for trouble ...

Pre season is all about the preparation of the players, not appeasing the fans.

However, they do need to good test to get themselves up to speed and I think that the community match Vs Hallen probably offers better than Rovers could.

Their facilities are better (not a tent in sight) they conduct themselves in the right way (submit accounts on time) and they might also be able to provide 11 players to compete against. Rovers might be struggling with that if we play them too early.

It's about time we got them in the league cup or FA cup but they keep failing to get past the 1st round - maybe next season?

I do miss the intense atmosphere and seeing that clowns outfit they call a football kit but the pleasure in playing them off the park and sticking 5 or 6 past them to just remind them of how superior our team is and do it at AG so they can experience a hostile city crowd who would take the piss for 90 minutes.

We can then look forward to another 1000 pages on the Bristol Rovers dustbin thread!

No thanks.

The fumigation would cost a fortune!

I know a Gashead who played for them. He appeared in a game at AG and is very (prowed) that he took a dump in the bath after the game.

I thought after Louis`s testimonial plod said they wouldn`t allow another friendly to happen.

@JulieH - I think you confirmed this in another thread recently?

Yes that I believe was the advice we gave after the testimonial match.

i would expect that to still be the case.

They do indeed, although for the last one they actually rang for a Police Escort from the Cross Hands if I’m not mistaken.

Yes you are mistaken, they did not phone for a police escort .

You fail to mention he didn't intend to.....
