Major Isewater
It is becoming increasingly the case that teams that perform well in the Championship get their best players taken by rich Prem clubs and so on down the divisions . If you don’t go up in that one golden season then you have to start all over again without your established key players . This doesn’t improve the level of football played because players don’t have enough time to become a team. Individualism is taking over the sport . We will never see a City team promoted that have played together for years like the famous Alan Dick’s promotion side .
Lrrr
We've supposedly had our 'golden chance' the last 2 seasons, we managed to finish higher last season than the one before when our chance had apparently gone and managed to replace the players we lost. Riaz
I think this season is our chance Alot of teams are strugglnig financially or with FFP. We've had lots of transfer income the last few seasons plus 13m from the kelly deal already. With a very good squad already - we need a good summer of transfer business, because many of our rivals wont be able to spend. I''m very hopeful for the coming season. Admin phantom Posted June 19, 2019 Admin Report Share Posted June 19, 2019 Agree with @Riaz I am convinced this is going to be our big season. The financial constraints have loosened on us now, and we have the core of at least a top 10 side. We know where we need to add the quality, and that is before the bonus of an unsung hero stepping up that we never saw coming
Mr Popodopolous
While I don't think it is our only chance, it definitely has the feel of a huge window of opportunity now. As such we should given there are favourable circs in our favour, push the boat out between now and August 9th- here's hoping that deals aplenty are being negotiated and there will be a big announcement one day in July. Bit of a dream summer but anyway why not: Kalas-Da Silva PERM Palmer or Powell- PERM Vydra- PERM Unsure who for DM- Williams loan? The obligatory prospect- but higher level. Luca Connell is highly sought after- Bolton have financial trouble, don't ask and don't get! Also good enough, plenty good enough, to compete for a first team place I reckon. Reading in financial trouble- Yiadom, sure. Can cover both RB and LB. Ajayi Rotherham too. Don't have a problem with signing players like Szmodics too- one or 2 of them, impressive prospects we can hope to develop or have compete can only strengthen us. Then we sell O'Dowda, sell or loan Watkins and Baker- hopefully sell but loan with wages covered and a modest loan fee maybe more realistic. Decisions to make about Wright and Taylor- an argument to keep IMO but also it constitutes potential profit. Wouldn't break FFP, would have cash in the bank and more still to shift which helps to free things up a tad.
maxjak
It is all massively dependent on the next few weeks transfer activity. I personally cannot see Adam Webster being poached, unless a bid of 20 mill plus is offered for the future England International. Then will Mr Kalas, Mr Da Silva and Mr Palmer return to the fold? Then we need a 20 goal per season striker, a quality midfielder (Palmer could be that man?) and another full back............It's a big IF, but if Lj's promise of BOLD recruitment is fulfilled then we could make it to the promised land? But as things stand, it all comes down to money and ambition. Lets just hope that we achieve our aims in the market that is all about transfers.........and then it's becomes all about LJ, Luck and remaining injury free. Very true, those blaming the club for not keeping the team together in order to build a team over 2/3 seasons for promotion are living in the dark ages, it won’t/and doesn’t work like that anymore. Each season is a one shot deal, so it makes it more important to have a coach like LJ who has consistently managed to build good young teams who improve year on year
And Its Smith
Sheffield United and Villa missed out last season and went up this season so not sure the OP is accurate.

Out losses are huge. We dont have lots of money but we have done well in the transfter market and are doing well with regards to FFP. We are allowed losses of 39m over 3 year period. We have had to sell exactly the players who should have been part of a promotion side to pay for the horrific transfer dealings. Though some signs of improvement these last 12 months. Point is, we are in as good a position as we'll ever be, after all the players sold. Alot of our rivals in our division cant spend. We can. Major Isewater
The key element of my post is that players don’t spend long enough at a club to develop as a team . Where is the almost telepathic understanding that makes a team so exciting to watch ? Bryan and Reid grew up with each other’s game and had it but it is rare these days . The instant a player stands out he is courted and bought by the bigger clubs . So you have to go up with them or else start again and hope the replacements are as good.
