Missed the start of it but says we will continue to go about the transfer window in 'the Bristol City way' so don't expect us to spends huge amounts in one window and has said we're wanting to build around Webster and reaffirms that we don't need to sell anybody given our financial position. Players back in on the 28th but have been in for a week or so over the summer as a check up to make sure their summer plans are going right.

The Bristol city way isn’t about how much we spend

if we identify a needed player say kalas and the best price we can get is 8 million, we’ll spend 8 million

the Bristol city way is more often then not sign younger players develop them then sell for a profit,

May have worded it slightly badly but he essentially said we're not going to spend huge amounts

However that depends on what Lee's interpretation of 'huge' (or whatever word) is

That of course may just be a smokescreen to put off those clubs which have done their financial detective work on us, like a number of posters on here, and know that we are in a position to really go for it this season.

(Or at least, that's how I'm trying to spin it.)

Pretty much what Porto has said,

we aren’t going to announce we’ve got mountains of cash, prices would sky rocket

Think it could depend on whether we get Jay really and if we sell anyone else, if we do then its a first choice signing for a very small fee, if we don't get him we may have to spend at least double to find someone of the same quality. If O'Dowda stays and everything is fine with him playing then it saves us spending a few million on a winger. At the moment (if Dasilva signs) we only really need to sign a CB and even then have Wright/Baker. Very much a summer of adding quality over needing a few good players.

In terms of "announcing" how much cash we've got, we've already done that, haven't we? We sold a player for eight figures, and since we're yet to sign Da Silva or Kalas that money the squad requires investment. If we wanted to keep our cards close to our chest, we should've kept the Kelly deal silent until the window opened.

As far as spending big money goes, we'll spend what makes sense financially. It'll be a risk, and will mean we won't necessarily get first-choice targets, but that's the cross the club will choose to bear, especially as LJ had previously said that we'd need to strengthen the squad. A balance between high-quality and ROI is key.

It’s also not a great idea to shout out from the rooftops that we’re going to spend ‘ huge ‘ amounts.

That would instantly increase the asking price for any player we’re interested in .

With squad as it stands I wonder who most would consider our player to watch this season? Eliasson? Brownhill?

Eliassion for me,

if he works on his composure and finishing he could be quite deadly

Agreed. Played often and in the right team (and that means with the adequate personnel on the end of his crossing), I think this is his season.

Has already proven his crossing is at a very high level, we just need to get people on the end of them.

Webster is our best player by some margin but I'm looking forward to watching Elliasson next season, there's something about the kid. Now he's familiar with the physical aspect of this division / country, he could be a absolute star given his pace and excellent delivery.

Semenyo has the tools and attributes to really step up next season too leading to the question do we really need an additional striker, costing an absolute wedge?

Interesting that LJ is now playing down any thoughts of going and spending big; especially given how before he was saying how ambitious he wanted to be and that big signings are a necessity.

Perhaps a smokescreen, and LJ regrets originally saying we were going to spend big?

The 2 don't have to be linked...

Did he ever say any of that?

I know he said we needed to be bold in the transfer market, but have no recollections of him saying we would spend big.

Did he say that exactly? I know “bold” was the key word, but that doesn’t necessarily mean spending fortunes.

Still Webster for me

Eliasson for me.

Webster is absolutely class, but "one to watch" almost always (for me) implies someone who's strong going forward.

Eliasson has all that's needed to make a big impact. Just needs a bit more composure.
