Of course it matters to Jay as his name identifies him.

His full name is Jay Rhys Dasilva. Thus JRD would be acceptable.

The name Silva is of Portuguese origin with the feminine of the prefix de, which is da. It means "of the" and the name Dasilva is clearly a corruption of da Silva. As only the first letter of the name needs capitalization, the name is written as Dasilva.

Thus it is only common courtesy to initialize his name as JRD.

Quite correct, CA.

Literally "Jay of the Woods".

In a Portuguese-speaking country, he would be Jay da Silva.

In many British-speaking Caribbean islands Portuguese sounding surnames are quite common. Some are the descendants of Portuguese Jews who fled to Jamaica in the 16th Century, others are descendants of indentured labourers brought to the islands from Madeira and Brazil after slavery was abolished in the British Empire.
