Bury haven't played a game yet so the EFL will find it easier to let them go. Bolton seem to have people that want them but can't agree how to do it, I reckon they will get a stay just to save the EFL dealing with the issue of what to do with the games that have already been played.

I don't see how there's any coming back now for either club in the League in their current form.

Leyton Orient are another one who have found life tough in the shadow of bigger teams.  Teams like Yeovil and FGR are small clubs but they don't particularly have any local competition.

Our own relative success vs Rovers has seen us grow our combine share of local fans.  If you think at one point it was nearer 50/50 and it is now 75% City, 25% Rovers

You forgot the 90,000 gasheads locked out of the poll.

Very very odd. Maybe ‘supports’  another team (if braincells of said individual allows them to carry out cognitive actions) but still very strange / sad / embarrassing regardless.  Reporter handled it very well though.

The EFL are a joke - simple as!

However as noted in that David Squires cartoon strip, your football is a wider reflection of your country:

Germany - highly organised; supporters owning 51% of a club’s shares; stability guaranteed, tradition and local relevance valued.

England - no organisation; any chancer can own a club and drive it to the wall (or over a cliff); “it’s a free market” - winners and losers, “Devil take the hindmost”.

As a nation, our stock is rapidly dropping and the demise of Bury and Bolton is just another small symptom of our national affliction!

I thought that was an awful idea - did you really think fans of Bury, Oldham and Rochdale would have supported Manchester North End in their droves whilst watching their own clubs’ histories and traditions be expunged overnight? Would you be in favour of City merging with other clubs and changing the club’s name, stadium and kit colours etc? Would you go and watch?

You were probably in favour of Hull City being renamed and Cardiff changing their home kit to red ...

Whatever happened to Bristol South End and Bedminster FC?

Your going off subject talking about kit changes and name changes.

Absolutely.

Absolutely typical of Sky. Has Harry Redknapp been filmed hanging out of a Range Rover admitting he is considering buying one or other club?

Really sorry to do this, could you post the content of the article please?

I normally persist with ‘live’ websites but that one is absolutely riddled with refreshes and adverts.

The first couple of paragraphs seem quite interesting (in a shameful, ‘classic efl’ way)

It's not so bad on a computer but on a phone etc..

Sure. Incredible- the headline speaks volumes, even considering the track record of the EFL! It reads like a spoof article ie the Spoof.com or similar and considering the date it may as well be but you can't make up that stuff!

The EFL on why Blackpool's Karl Oyston was mentor for Port Vale's Norman Smurthwaite

The EFL have responded to the Port Vale Supporters' Club about Karl Oyston and Norman Smurthwaite

By

Michael Baggaley

20:00, 1 APR 2019

It was one of the most eyebrow raising comments of a memorable encounter between Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite and fans at a no--holds-barred supporters club meeting.

Smurthwaite was invited to the meeting last season fielded open questions from the floor for a couple of hours.

One such question was, is it actually true that the EFL gave then Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston to Smurthwaite as a mentor.

The Vale owner confirmed that was indeed the case.

Now the Supporters' Club have taken that issue up with the EFL asking why a chairman who was controversial at Blackpool would be a seen as a suitable mentor for the man at the helm of Port Vale.

Mark Porter, chairman of the Supporters' Club, wrote to the EFL asking for an explanation, and they wrote back.

The EFL explained that Oyston was assigned to Smurthwaite way back when the Vale owner was new to the club, having bought the Valiants out of administration in 2012/13.

They said: "Thanks for your email, we understand your concerns and note the comments you made throughout.

"In relation to your query regarding mentorship, at the time of Norman Smurthwaite's initial involvement at Port Vale, a then Football League mentor policy was in operation.

"This policy aimed to provide new owners with a mentor, to speak and liaise with in circumstances where they did not feel they were required to directly engage with the league.

"Blackpool's approach to player expenditure was of interest to Norman Smurthwaite, and he was assigned Karl Oyston as mentor who, during that time, had been voted as a Championship representative on the Football League board.

"Of course, these events fell prior to the well-documented difficulties that have since faced Blackpool FC.

"The EFL's overriding aim is to ensure the long-term sustainability of our 72 member clubs, and see our competitions, and the league prosper as a whole.

"While clubs have a responsibility to engage and consult with their fanbase, the EFL will look to advise supporters and supporters' groups on any relevant matters or ongoing concerns as appropriate."

The email was revealed by Porter during the last Vale Supporters' Club meeting at which members of the Blackpool Supporters Trust were guest speakers.

Karl Oyston was chairman of Blackpool from 1999 until February 2018. A large section of Blackpool fans have boycotted the club for the last four years over the way he and his father Owen Oyston ran the club.

But this February, Owen Oyston was removed from the board of the club. That was after Blackpool were put into receivership by the High Court.

Tbh if we were in their position we’d do the same but shows they’re looking down rather than up in their division despite being the sixth richest club and all that

Using the same clock to measure when they're 'coming for us....'

And typical levels of sag optimism, rather than make themselves better - rely on the collapse and failure of 2 teams below them.  Fingers crossed for both Bolton & Bury, if nothing else to piss the Fewers off.

I certainly wouldn't. Imagine being a fan of Bury or Bolton. It must be so sad. I wasnt around when we went through similar so I cant even imagine it.

That said' we haven't been in the same division as those ******* across the river for god knows how long but my hate just seem to get stronger year by year for them. The day they go under will be a day to treasure.

I've been watching BBC North West tonight.

Fans of about a dozen or more clubs turned up at Gigg Lane today to help prepare the stadium for Saturday's game.

Dale has now announced three more interested buyers of the club; one had been owner of Gateshead FC.
