Smith netted for Hibs. Is there a chance the trialling team will try to buy the player outright? Could be some easy money for players that won’t quite cut it with us.

In some cases you have to wonder whether trial is with a view to a loan or permie transfer.

Dowling isnt one of ours anymore though is he.

He was offered a one year extension, so even if he hasn’t accepted it (Assuming it was better terms) then City would be owed compensation.  But no idea other than that, there was talk of him being in trial at Derry.

Hibernian will not be offering deals to either Bristol City midfielder Jonny Smith or Chinese Taipei international Will Donkin.

The pair featured as trialists for Hibs’ development team in the 2-1 defeat by Newcastle United’s under-23 side on Monday, with midfielder Smith finding the net.

However, it is understood that the capital club were simply allowing Smith to utilise their training facilities and feature in the friendly as a courtesy.

Personally think its time to give jonny smith a chance hes had two sesons worth of loans , it sends a bad message to the other lads if we start doing a "chelsea" ,and not providing a path to break through .....

What have you seen to think he’s anywhere near good enough for the first team. We have given loads of academy players first team opportunities if they’re good enough.

My opinion is ,hes obviously got something or we wouldnt have him under contract , hes looked decent the couple of times ive seen him play for city ,hes been on successfull loans for the past two seasons, if marley watkins can get game time on the wing for city then surely jonny smith deserves a crack ......
