Do we all seriously think this kid has been bought to go into the first team now?? Surely he is far too inexperienced at this time?

Don't think SL is in the habit of buying $8m prospects, are we Chelsea or Man U? He will be in the first team pushing for a start I hope.

At 8m and having played 3 champions league games against the likes of Dortmund and Atletico as well as 3 in the French first division, I doubt that he'll be expecting to play against Cheltenham u-21s at Failand and I doubt that LJ will be considering it either :)

If he signs, he'll be in and around the first team from day one imo.

This is very interesting. Just a thought, and I haven’t read this whole thread, maybe he was one of our targets if we had been promoted last season? Then he has become available to us at a time we have cash.

Also LJ is no idiot. There will have to be some degree of protecting him I am sure. Even at 8m, he is still a 18 year old. He will need time to settle, adjust to the style of the league etc. I am sure he’d get plenty of minutes but I am also sure he wouldn’t be playing the full 90 all 45 games left after he signs.

Well, both have dads who are agents. Both are from humble backgrounds. And Neymar forced ill conceived moves solely for financial gain, which is what I hope we’re not seeing here.

Sancho moving from an A list team to a different A list team is not comparable to a kid moving from an A list team to us. This is akin to Ashley Cole taking a big step backwards to get his career back on track. I hope we do as well out of this one, but there’s clearly an element of risk in this manoeuvre.

am sure there are plenty of other footballers who have dad's as agents and it's not an issue, your just picking out one bad example. As I said Neymar is a complete cock despite his humble beginnings in life. By the looks of it this guy seems a nice chap, Neymar has always looked like a arrogant self entitled cock with his whole demeanor.

This guy isnt moving for financial gain, he is moving to progress his career. By and large the French league is pretty shite. Overall the Championship is the better league with the exception of PSG who up until recently were shite.

This isn't a sideways move, or a backwards move for the young lad. This is a forwards move.

It's comparable in that neither were being played.

You seem to be a glass half empty type?  Personally i applaud the clubs ambition and foresight in going for a Monaco player, who clearly is going places IMHO.

You got me in one there ha ha.

TBF I was meaning to have a dig at the BP and the quality of material they come up with.

I probably am, by nature, someone who is a bit risk averse. So I fret when I see bcfc spending our limited resources in this way. Can't deny it is also quite exciting and if we sign him I hope it turns out to be a massive success.

Bristol is a vibrant cultural City that youngsters love. I'm sure he will find a slice of home within Bristol.

Bristol is actually closer to his own home town than Monaco, I can't imagine him being able to afford to live the lifestyle in Monaco.

How do you know he doesn't speak English? Id say it's likely he at least has a basic grasp of English and even if he doesn't, he's young so will pick it up quickly.

His parents may move over with him.

Bristol has a harbour, a few casinos and motor racing at castle Combe on the doorstep.  I can’t see him missing anything Monaco has to offer.

Is this definately Lansdowns jet?

If so, there's this for more detail. Landed yesterday evening in Bristol.

Flight.PNG

This is Peter Hargreaves plane but is flying under Centreline which SL owns. SL also has the same plane and also a Falcon with a new one being added later this year. Unless Peter just happened to be in SOF and its an incredible coincidence then this indeed is the plane bringing our new signing to Bristol.Under the Centreline charter- it's whatever private jet is available the day.

Different world.

Why a huge gamble?

Presumably BCFC have done some background checks etc on him?

Yes,but checks aren't guarantee of success, especially with youngsters.

Only 18 years old, from another country, same fee than Kalas one (a proven defender, with plenty of experience in England): if he didn't settle, we could have a problem, because spending much on him could exclude other signings in midfield.

Not convinced by this imminent move, but I hope to be proven wrong.

Personally think he'll be sent straight back to France and a season loan to someone like Angers to get lots of game time and experience.

A sensitive subject so I'll try and use my words carefully. Actually I'll just leave it as that, you know what I'm struggling to find the words to say.

He could have done that from Monaco, but you may well be right.

It is an odd signing with a large hint of risk but at the same time, intriguing and mildly exciting.

Never dull (off the pitch).

You could look at the move as the lad has realised the new Monaco manager is going to be focusing on experienced players due to the urgency and demand to get Monaco back to the top of Ligue 1 due to last season so can not afford to blood youngsters, so he wants to get away to play first team football.

Maybe he sees his style of football to suit the English game or wants to test himself here.

He recognises us as a club who matches his ambitions/can see we will improve players and won’t stand in their way if a larger team comes in for them.

We won’t pay anywhere near a lower league prem club or German team which is the sort of team you’d imagine could also be interested in him for this value so maybe his interest in moving to us is the opposite of chasing the money (not that he’ll be working minimum wage with us)

It's important to get your private jet strategy correct. The Falcon flies to Guernsey, the game reserves owned in Botswana and away games whilst the Legacy 500 with all its swanky marble etc is used regularly to pop over to NY to watch a bit of American football. The new jet-well, that can fly just about anywhere on the planet.

Hope this helps with your word finding.

We’re quite attractive to players now, we’ve shown with flint, Reid & Webster we won’t stand in a players way if clubs come in for them.

A few assumptions there (like my post), my point was that there is no guarantee he'll settle and there are a few example challenges he's going to have to deal with but one thing is for sure, we fans need to give him time and not expect too much to start with (if he does well from the start then excellent), but one thing OTIB is excellent at is over criticising our players before a game has even finished, instead of supporting them. I wouldnt be suprised that the same happens here.
