Yep, a lot of puzzling decisions that day.

An escort of 'risk' fans which I assume they or many of them would've been in 20% late- problems on 2 levels.

Draws attention, helps to incite and of course their anger levels. I was actually Dolman A Block that day right near the top- fairly sure a reasonable chunk of their fans seemed to be applauding the 'risk' group in but I maybe wrong?

No police, no senior stewards to combine in that corner- should've been from the start.

There were plenty in the end but not until some issues had occurred- best way to prevent or most likely way anyway is to stop it before it begins, prevention is better than cure etc!

Obviously was watching game but was surprised at the time to see zero police, zero senior stewards looked like some young ones (students earning some extra cash?) and some old guy- senior by age probably but not quite what I mean by senior steward!

Puzzled as to why that arrangement would be in place for such a game...

You are 100% correct. If the 700-800 Swansea fans had arrived before the match had started I doubt it would have kicked off in that corner.

Not sure why they were late. Whether it was a police decision I don’t know.

Tbh not that I condone their conduct, obviously that'd have an impact but also being taken in that escort 18 mins late, I question the decision making there. Can't have helped the situation IMO.

In a similar vein in fact to holding back fans at the end. May seem a sensible solution but can create unforeseen issues too.

Believe our fans were held back at Plymouth one year and subsequently charged the gates! Probably not ideal for public order?

Was that the circa 2007 game?

It was a bit of a shit day, delayed on the train due to floods on the line, a lot of us got off at Newton Abbot for a liquid breakfast due to hearing no pubs in Plymouth were allowing in City fans (police decision) it was all sensible in the spoons until the police turned up heavy handed and closed the pub and forced everyone onto the next train.

Arrived at Plymouth to then be treated heavily handed by the police and a subsequent escort to the stadium ensured which didn't go smoothly due to their heavy handed tactics. Think we may have even turned up late to the game.

It was carnage in the seating area due to Plymouth's insistence that everyone must sit in their allocated seat, people were sat in each others seats, standers standing in front of sitters etc.

To top it off we drew when we should have won, dodgy pen I think maybe? Their keeper had the game of his life.

Following the final whistle fans were not allowed to leave the seating area, not even into the concourse to use the toilet, communication was poor, no one would say how long we would be held for whilst bursting for the toilet. Eventually fans pushed their way into the concourse and then a short while later charged through the gates.

The police had lost all control as fans spilled out of the stadium, their was dogs and horses charging around the small space outside the away stand and officers swinging battons at anyone and everyone.

As City fans left the footprint of the stadium there was a group of Plymouth fans waiting so aggro then occured.

It was just a perfect storm which the police had zero control of from start to finish. If your going to treat people like animals then it's hardly surprising if they then act like it is it?

I remember the landlady of the pub in Newton abbot telling the police everything was fine with no problems what so ever . The police were not one bit interested and just wanted us gone , I think we caught them buy surprise a bit turning up up at a pub 9 in the morning about 200 strong

The only place I mostly remember reading it was on here but yeah you were there by the sounds so seems like it was the one. I am sure I remember hearing of a bit of bother in 2002 on the Bank Holiday weekend game there too but maybe not? I digress!

Sounds like it for sure, treat people like animals and how will they behave? Not condoning it but it sounds like what happened was unsurprising and pretty inevitable in the circs.

That was in GJ season if 2007 I believe, earlyish kick off? Sometime between 12 and 1.

As I recall both teams where at it . No problem Swansea having 3,600 if the police let us out a good 15 minutes before them .

Sounds an excellent idea and yes sounds right, both were indeed at it it would appear.

Holding back, can it cause unforeseen issues? Mostly no, but sometimes yes.

Think the max in the League will be what Leeds got in any case, 2,300 or thereabouts and pretty well all the top half of Atyeo.

So no doubt it will not be a sell out crowd but there will be supporters who would have liked a ticket.  Daft!!  Imagine any other sport or artistic production where this applies.  Imagine segregation at the theatre between  ... god knows.  I have family in Neath / Port Talbot and the way that you Bristolians talk about the Welsh is actually far more than bordering on racist.  Bit it reflects a recent survey that quoted the average IQ of a football 'supporter' vis a vis a cricket or rugby fan.

Not for the first time, you appear to be on the wrong forum.

Now **** off.

I’m a bit embarrassed for you for this comment, I assume you’ve been googling to find out average attendances 10 years ago, unless you have a detailed knowledge of our attendances (I certainly don’t), problem is you didn’t also google how big the ground was 10 years ago as well.  Poor research.

A jack talking about attendances......15,000 crowds to start this season and many ST holders not showing either.

Welsh wigan as they are known in Wales, now all their glory hunting rugby fans have gone they are not left with much. Embarrassingly I think they still sing rugby songs as they have so few of their own.

Confusing topic this.... starts off giving pelters to Swansea for violence after a police escort delayed entry to the ground.... then brings up games where city fans were goaded into violence due to police tactics.

So to clarify, are we for or against disorder at Football??

I think what we are all for is fair policing and being treated like human beings. Both of which rarely happen.

The Swansea escort should never have been brought in so late.

I've been a part of police escorts many of times. For some reason it's the police tactics to make you turn up to the game late, I've been on some obscure tours of industrial estates etc in the past, the police deliberately take you on the longest possible route. I've also seen people bitten by police dogs even tho they were complying with the escort. They will then randomly stop the escort to hold you up longer. So is it any surprise that once fans arrive in the stadium, having missed most of the first half, they are quite pissed off?

League cup bla bla....we have 18500 season ticket holders, that’s 3000 more than your entire average this season.

welsh Wigan ?

Let’s be honest, you were also getting 15k crowds in your promotion season.

And you’ve just been relegated so crowds are bound to be higher as people stick on after the premier league.

Plus you are a one club city that is much bigger than Swansea so a higher number of fans to aim for...

Yes 18500 , with thousands of them wanting to watch Man Utd etc. Wait until next season 12,000 at most, because you won’t be getting promoted ?

Watching Man Utd? They all knew what league we’d be in when they renewed ....Man Utd? That  team we destroyed a few months back at old Trafford in near silence bar  a few thousand bluebirds....I hope we dont get promoted, the money league is killing the game as we know it.

Caerdydd and Abertawe arguing on here, how cute. The reality is we are the biggest club of the three with the most fans, proven by the crowds we get in relation to our lack of success

Glad we're providing a little bit of our forum for the wellshits to have a dick waving contest. Knowhere else they could do it in the whole of cyberspace.

Don’t worry you certainly won’t be promoted ? where were all your season ticket holders last night ? 4,111. It’s only the cup but Swansea more than doubled your pathetic crowd last night.

??  Lots of empty seats last night ????????????E0D66863-6C79-46F5-8B6E-136A7EEFA88C.thumb.png.3da0dac68733014695b05931a630f976.png
