Looking like a basic 4-4-2 to me. Possibly a 4-2-3-1 if Semenyo drops deep.

Yes, either option, or Semenyo could play left, Eliasson right, Szmodics behind Diedhiou.

Is Bakinson injured?

Might be preparing to go on loan....thought either him or Walsh will be going out.

With LJ wouldn’t surprise me if it was something we weren’t expecting...

Ha ha, beat me too it.

I don’t disagree but my only argument would be does playing this lineup mean they get a more vigorous training session tomorrow? At the moment they will only have had Friday and Monday and I imagine Friday wouldn’t have been a hard training session. I do not know how it works but would sparing them tonight mean they get better understandings during the week.

Like I said LJ generally goes quite strong in these games so I doubt it will be what I put. Just at the same time think we need to be careful giving these new foreign recruits too many minutes too soon. They won’t be used to that strain. Read today Nagy said he was feeling it after the Birmingham game and he describes himself as a fit player. Same with Periera at RB or RWB. He played 26 times in a slower paced game last season and now have to ask him to play 50 in the championship? Think it needs to be considered

I hope that any sort of back 5 would only be used in an emergency ala Saturday. I only think it's effective if you recruit specifically for it, with one defender who can comfortably play that Ayling role of bringing the ball out of defence otherwise it's too negative and you risk long balls from the centre halves.

Definitely. Was tough to watch at times Saturday. Only picked that because seemed to be easier to fit in more who needed a game. LJ did get a lot of guys a game tonight.

QPR have a very strong lineup so tough task tonight

If I remember correctly, Cotterill liked the system after attending a coaching seminar about how to properly set it up prior to joining us.

I'm not a fan of it as a system unless you've clearly recruited specifically for it as he did. 1 defender for that Ayling role, 2 pure wing backs (not full backs filling in). All three of those types of players are relatively rare - but with Ayling, Bryan, Little, Tavernier - he had an abundance of specialists which made the formation really effective.

Obviously there are other ways you can play the system, but because we've clearly not recruited for it - I can't really see it working unless we're desperate to nick a point in a tough away game.

Much prefer to see two strikers or some version of a 433.
