More match day parking restrictions

They can paint yellow lines but they still can`t get the ******* park and ride open!

Why can't we get some proper match day public transport. Double decker buses direct from all the population centres from around Bristol would take a shed load of cars of the road. Surely there's a profit to be made in it. Free ticket for the bus driver as an incentive. They could even have it as an add-on for season ticket holders.

Love the bit about since the capacity was extended to 27,000- when it used to be 30+ 20 odd years ago! Also it’s interesting that football has become an issue since property prices in Beddy got so high and southville grew so much.it’s Not like the football ground suddenly appeared!

Perhaps the counsel members have shares in the outrageously high cost car parks that have sprung up since the residents parking scheme happened!!!!

The reason people are risking parking like this, is because of the parking restrictions elsewhere ?

It's nigh on impossible to use your car or public transport to get to a game without taking hours before and after the game to travel.

A ridiculous situation.

Not defending the restrictions but it’s simply not true to say you need hours either side of the game to travel. With a little bit of planning and a willingness to walk a short distance it’s very possible. I manage it from a Chippenham every time I come.

People joke...with respect, but this is seriously becoming a massive problem.

You simply can't trust public transport to work. I've tried... it's so fragile, either human error or other circumstances stop it working efficiently.

If it works, it still needs so much planning.

As for parking...I used to use the Ashville for pre and post match socialising. The roads around it are pretty much empty.

Talking to their staff, these parking restrictions have had a massive effect on their business. People don't go their as often because of them.

I should imagine it's the same for other businesses.

This is purely a way of making money or trying to get people to use public transport that doesn't work efficiently.

What time do you leave Chippenham?

It’s not quite that simple as I pick up others on the way, but using JustPark I could show up at 2:45 for a 3pm kick off and my space would still be there.

Chippenham to Ashton Gate on a clear run would take around 45-50 minutes, but on a Saturday afternoon I’d always give myself 75 mins or so.

So I'm guessing you share the cost of just park?

A fan on his own with different time patterns and restrictions to you shouldn't be anialated.

Bristol City as a Club are a massive Community get together. Something that should be encouraged and made easy. The Council want to encourage ' Community' but do everything in their path to make it hard, unless it goes into their coffers.

As has no doubt been said many times before, it's no good putting in more parking restrictions if alternative parking or public transport facilities are not put in place, to cope with said parking being displaced. Granted the buses have improved but there still aren't enough to cope. BCC at it's incapable best as usual.

Don’t see how this will work. Most of the roads around the ground are street parking for houses with no drives. So if they are double yellows where do the residents park for the rest of the week? Double yellows in other places are just going to push more cars into these roads, making the problem worse. Well thought out BCC as usual.

Maybe if they actually put some effort into looking at reliable sustainable affordable public transport to and from the games (park and ride, Ashton Gate station, buses from all over Bristol) then less people would be taking their cars. Instead we have the backward archaic thinking of ‘ah right yeah we’ll just put some more double yellows down, that’ll stop em’.

Most inept council in the country

Yes we split the JustPark cost between three of us.

Not sure what you mean about the fan on his own, JustPark is generally £5-6 so not that expensive. And the beauty of it is your space is reserved, so it’s a very good option for people with different time patterns and restrictions, as you put it.

That said, I’m not defending the council whatsoever. The pitiful lack of joined-up thinking when it comes to a transport strategy for a large stadium in an urban area is frankly pathetic. It’s a cliche to say it, but it just wouldn’t happen in Germany or Holland.

I can see a time coming when because of less and less parking, coupled with rubbish public transport, this and this alone will be the deciding factor in whether I renew my SC.

Beat you to it, the buses on an evening are a joke for me, I either miss the last 10 mins of night games or have to wait till ten to eleven for the next one home and if it rains and the cricket club and field next to it are closed there is nowhere to go. I go to Saturday games only now or night games If it doesn't rain, but that makes a season ticket not worth it.

Doing stuff like this will then just push the cars to another residential area that doesn't have restrictions, at which point they will complain and the council will act to then benefit them and so on.

.....and then you’ve created another need for RPZ’s.

More money for the council to spend on things we don’t need.

Good. The dangerous and illegal parking on matchdays has reached farcical levels.

I use a mobility scooter on matchdays, I tried using the pathway between Ford and Marsh Rd Traffic lights, on the first game V Leeds, some inconsiderate IDIOT parked on the path by the traffic lights, couldn't get through unless I bump down onto the road, I ask a police woman for help, totally useless, her words "I can't do anything", I said to her can't you put a tkt on it, and tow it, as it's an obstruction, she said I will later, after the game car was still there, no tkt, the owner turned up, I said thanks for causing an obstruction, his words were, FXXK OFF, the officer told me to go back to the roundabout at Fords and cross there, totally useless police,

The police/council seem to not be bothered about it TBH - which as you've pointed out causes numerous issues. Hope you get to the QPR game on saturday without having to negotiate an assault course of idiotically parked cars!

How many games do you actually attend though ?

Try doing it 25 times or so a season

Tbh, this direction of travel, this trend is/will be common place in cities.

What would be interesting would be to see if other grounds/clubs in urban areas- outside of London of course which seems to get all it wants and more in terms of transport and especially medium-large cities with a ground in the city itself, have the same level of issues. (Adjusted per capita, per attendee etc).

@adamski Capacity hasn't been 30,000 or upwards since pre all seater days. Plus the last time we had attendances of this level or above on a regular basis was late 1970s, to 1980- or maybe mid 1970s-1980? Top flight and maybe 1976 promotion season. There were a LOT less cars on the road in general then. Saw a stat some while ago about the growth between x and y.

Mind you the public transport in Bristol is pretty shit, from surrounding areas even more so therefore it's hardly a surprise.
