""It was a relationship we built in pre-season,” says Abraham, who joined City the day before their Championship campaign began. “The manager came to my house, saw my family and I got to meet him then as well. That’s when he earned my family’s trust and my trust really. He told me about the stadium, the players, who I would get on with and it was from there I knew it was Bristol City where I wanted to be." "

"Having sealed the move, Abraham has now revealed that John Terry played a key role in persuading him to make the move to Villa Park"

Bit weird for Terry to need to convince Abraham if Abraham has no say.

""He [Terry] was one of the first people to call me and said it was a great club and he enjoyed every minute here," the 20-year-old is quoted as saying in the Express and Star. "He said I would like it, like the manager, like the players and I believed him so I’m here.""

You know better though, right @Leveller?

That won't happen with Brownhill captain. Han-Noah will drop back to the bench when Nagy returns.

I wouldn't count on it.  Being captain doesn't mean being in the XI - see Bailey Wright.

It's also worth remembering Brownhill spent a season playing right midfield pretty successfully.

That’s great, and shows where he wants to go is important, but it doesn’t say anywhere that he is given the ultimate choice / decision.  That’s the point, we are all guessing to an extent.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, I just don’t think it’s clearcut, that Tammy or Eddie have the ultimate decision.  What comes out in an interview will quite likely have some spin in it too.  Tammy is a smart lad and isn’t gonna say anything different is he?

I do have a response, but apparently I'm not allowed to send it because it's lunchtime on a Bank Holiday.

Given one of our major problems recently has been flogging Marlon & Josh half to death week in week out I`m sure we`ll see a lot more rotation this season now we have the personnel to do it.

What has a quote from Tammy got to do with a decision by Arsenal/Nketiah? You’ve provided nothing to back up your assertion that that decision was 100% Nketiah’s , not Arsenal’s. My original post was challenging Chinapig’s statement that not attending a medical was a sign of Nketiah’s poor character by the way. Do you have a view on that?

I didn't say not attending was the issue but that him (or rather his representative as players tend not to do these things themselves) not informing us was. I may be rather old fashioned but I tend to take a lack of courtesy as an indicator of character.

Otherwise he and Arsenal were entitled to make the choice they did.

What evidence is there that Nketiah knew City had arranged a medical?

I cannot corroborate what was reported,  but I am not in a position to disprove the reports either. Unless you have contrary evidence of course.

If you are suggesting we would arrange a medical but not have the courtesy, or indeed competence, to tell his agent then perhaps we owe him an apology.

Academic now of course and the outcome seems ok for us so far. LJ talked more than once about wanting 1 or 2 attacking players so maybe we even wanted to sign both, though perhaps that would have meant another signing not happening.

I hope Nketiah gets enough game time to make the choice worthwhile but he may have to wait for Bamford to get injured or lose form as Bielsa is not that big on rotation.

Why would a club make arrangements for a medical and not let the player know?

(Assuming I am allowed to post now @Phileas Fogg or is there a tea time restriction too?)

Because they knew they were short of time (and waiting for a decision)....and they might not be able to get a slot if they didn’t book in advance.  Quite conceivable.  It’s called planning!!

No idea if that’s what happened, but pretty plausible.

Surely we'd make the player aware though?

Otherwise it's pretty crap planning.

"Yeah we booked a medical"

"So why isn't Nketiah here?"

"Well, we didn't tell Eddie the medical was booked, we just booked it"

Would be pointless to book a medical without the player being aware, even if just for issues over transport and getting there.

Not conceivable.

I was citing an example (actually 2) where it very clearly was the players choice.

You haven't provided any to suggest otherwise.

You’re missing the point.  It’s conceivable that we booked it in advance of him saying he (or Arsenal ???) had chosen us.

Had we waited for him (or Arsenal ???) to choose us we might not have been able to fix up a medical in time for the deadline.

Specialists are busy people....they have commitments / diary’s.

I think you are now choosing to be obtuse, because something you appear to state as fact has at much legs as the opposite argument.

All a few if yes are saying is you don’t know for sure....no more than we do....but we aren’t staying as fact.

I can keep this going all night! ???

People had been stating as fact that it was down to Arsenal- look back at the Nketiah thread.

I've provided more evidence for the opposite view than theirs combined, albeit mine using Tammy who was a Chelsea player and using the assumption that it works the same at different clubs.

Don't post all night, @Phileas Fogg will probably tell you off for posting too late into the evening.

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive Dave. I'd be surprised if we didn't book it in advance but I'd be equally surprised if we didn't inform his agent and Arsenal. In which case all we could reasonably expect was a call to say he wouldn't be coming. The rest is entirely a matter for Arsenal and the player.

I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a wasted season for him.

Absolutely spot on. My original point against Chinapig was that he had no reason to call out Nketiah’s character for failing to advise us he wasn’t coming for a medical. The point is that our making the arrangements was likely for our own convenience, in the hope EN would choose us. EN owed us nothing, unless you believe unsubstantiated rumours that he agreed to come to us then changed his mind.

I think the decent thing to do was let us know he wasn’t turning up, bearing in mind what was riding on it from our point of view.

I’m not as forgiving as you. I hope his season is a big disappointment.

Not conceivable.

Maybe we have recruited to head of 'medical appointments' the person who was responsible for telling Rio Ferdinand about his drug test?

Delighted to get Afobe.

I really hope LJ doesn't look to shoe horn Diedhiou into the team by playing them both up front at he expense of shifting Weimann into an ineffective position (although I think that is exactly what will happen).

It won't get the best out of Afobe imho, he needs the intelligence of Weimann next to him.

By my reckoning, Nketiah has a goal every 66 minutes in all comps this season so far. Not a useful stat at this point but will be interesting to see how that continues to chart. I reckon he'll bag loads...unfortunately.

Well, after last night he won`t be getting any more time or goals in the League Cup.

Unfortunately for him he won't get the game time to bag loads, sadly. Enough of that....I've moved on.
