Would be interesting to read the back of the book to start with. What is it about? Is it saying British fans are racists or is saying it's poor banter picking up on what the public in general consider to be a weakness (more than bad enough) like big ears and when the same player signs for the home team he is much loved by the home fans but taking abuse from the away end?

Shocking that the American Army banned marriage between black soldiers a white English women so comparatively recently.   

After helping defeat Hitler, it must've have been sickening for a black soldiers to face such discrimination. 

Must have been a though start to life for Steve and his mum.  Fair play to the bloke.
