Poor display. Donated three goals to Kosova. England very good at playing walking football which is a game I thoughr was for old men who cannot run!

Going nowhere with players like Barclay, Chilwell, a dreadful left back, Keane, Rice.  Wow.

Wales ".............?

How can you criticise England ?

Go to one-third pace with a defensive mind-set and you get sloppy.

When will Southgate wake up to the fact that walking football breeds complacency.

Henderson find a ******** forward gear will you. We don’t need three midfielders playing sideways and backwards you clown.

If the central midfield could have passed to each other as easily England would have not have been ran close by a team ranked below the Faroe Islands.

Maddison should have played instead of Rice. Not seeing what the fuss is about with him.

Jeez, just how negative is he? Several times we were on the edge of their box and Henderson decides it's time to bring Pickford into play ....

Keane, Chillwell, Rice.

Worthy of England caps ?

I don't think so.

Southgate underestimated the opposition tonight or he overestimated some of his players. The fullbacks were abysmal and either not ready for competitive England games or not up to it. Chillwell, imo, is nowhere near the standard.

Changing both full backs was a big mistake, neither of the two that came in were anywhere near the performance levels of who they replaced. And Keane - really  ?

Yeah, we won and was entertaining, but Kosovo gave as good as they got and England were playing for the 5-3 at the end - at home, two goals in front.

Big wake up call for Gareth - he hasn't got the strength in depth he maybe thought he had.

More negatives than positives from that game.

Thing is Chilwell and Rice have both been very decent in the PL so I wouldn’t write them off just yet. I would think both squad players once likes of Foden etc come through

Maguire generally is a solid defender so not got big issues there - just need someone else next to him. Keane and Stones are not the answer but Gomez is solid.

Incredible how negative some are. That’s Chilwell’s first average game for England but a fair few now say he isn’t good enough...one game!

Henderson is clearly excellent.

Other top nations often have only okay results in qualifiers and then reach finals or win the thing. No need to be so negative. We have an excellent squad

Not sure what point you are making here

Thats right , winning tournaments is the general idea

In qualifiers we should be building a system and side

I don’t see that - The outstanding Sterling and our individual quality across a front three is helping to mask the problems

Southgate inept tactically

Well said re Chilwell. He was excellent in Rijeka and Seville as England took 4 points from the Croatia / Spain away double header (one of the hardest possible introductions to international football).

A couple of dodgy moments tonight and all of a sudden he’s getting pelters from all angles.

Kosovo’s world ranking is artificially low, in part as they haven’t been around for particularly long. Before tonight they were on the longest unbeaten run (15 games) of any European country.

They won’t stay in 120th place or below the Faroe Islands for much longer.

Southgate is very limited IMHO

Would love to see what a Venables or Hoddle would have done with some of the players we have now

Limited in what way?

Hoddle was into odd spiritual stuff which ultimately cost him the job. Most players that he managed at club level disliked him with a vengeance. One said that “it’s all about Glen”......

Venables had lots of interests outside of football, lucrative interests. He was never as into the game as much as you’d expect from an England manager.

Why do you suppose we rarely see Venables on tv asa pundit?

Can i have a few drags of whatever it is your smoking please? Christ.

Miles away from winning a tournament IMO. We won’t be gifted such an easy run next summer as we were last. Quarter-finals at BEST for this team. Excellent going foward at times but woeful at the back. Cant look past France again for the Euro’s next summer to be honest.

Far more enjoyable game than Saturday - even if getting to the ground was a absolute nightmare. I liked the fact Kosovo actually tried to play football and were far better than some of the international teams I've seen recently.

Possibly the weirdest match I've ever seen though. 1 down after 37 seconds, 5-1 up at half time yet still time wasting come the final whistle ?

Atmosphere was a lot better than Wembley (smaller ground obviously helps). As others have pointed out, getting to Southampton was a nightmare due to roadworks and road closures so no real surprise there were empty seats at kick off. Plus the food/drink facilities were poor/limited so huge queues there too.

Does anybody remember this match?

England had to win by I forget how many goals to qualify for the finals and then this happened...

England conceded a goal inside the opening minute of an international match for the first time since November 1993, when San Marino’s Davide Gualtieri did so.

Jonathan Pearce's radio commentary of that fateful moment: “Welcome to Bologna on Capital Gold for England versus San Marino with Tennent’s Pilsner, brewed with Czechoslovakian yeast for that extra Pilsner taste... and England are one down.” You have to laugh...

Considering venables had the likes of Neville, Ince, Gazza, Shearer, Sheringham and Fowler to work with, whilst hoddle had some similar players with the likes of Beckham, Scholes and Ferdinand. Neither manages to get us to where Southgate did last year however...
