I did forward ideas from both Swansea and city fans to both the command team and the safety team for discussion around a hold back .a decision was made not to have a pre arranged hold back . Lots of implications around human rights and necessity were discussed .

It is still a tactic that could be considered on the day if necessary , and information suggests  this tactic will prevent further disorder and keep people safe .

Human rights? Dear me.

Personally I’d say the safety of children leaving the ground and immediately entering a tense area of mixed supporters really should trump any human rights nonsense. That’s what happened to us last season. Easily avoidable by holding back away fans for 15 minutes allowing ordinary supporters who’ve come to watch a football match to get well out of the way.

Can’t really see any argument against that.

You'd be surprised.

Football Specialist lawyers will critique these things, publicly at times too- yes the police have to factor this in. Has to be a last resort seemingly and only applicable if a genuine concern of disorder.

To be fair to Julie she didn’t rule it out, so I suppose it has to be a last resort thing.

That said, given the trouble during the game last season, even then they didn’t hold them back - and I say those circumstances made it easily justifiable.

Policing tactics don't always work- think the late escort in. I'd say it exacerbated problems personally, yet was probably intended to reduce the risk.

Don't you run the risk of a hold back for 20 mins of people getting angrier and angrier and being in a more belligerent mood in a boozed up crowd situation when leaving? Or damaging the interior of the stadium?

I'm playing Devil's Advocate a bit, but within that I am pointing out that it isn't necessarily a catch-all solution.

Yeah I can appreciate the drawbacks. I would argue that the delayed escort in was surely more to do with missing the start of the match though? Also I recall holding back away fans was commonplace in the past and didn’t generally result in the increasing anger you suggest?

I’d also say the potential for damage to property should be a last consideration compared to the prospect of trouble between supporters.

Damaged ground or damaged people?

I'm sure if any of us were on the end of a slap etc we'd much rather that person had punched a seat instead.

The problem now with the statement on Twitter it implies there won't be any hold back.

But they could have said it may happen or even will happen. It'll be the lateness of the announcement that causes the issue

Fair points- and the risk of them kicking off in the ground should be at the last consideration.

Delayed escort made them miss the start of the game yeah, helped exacerbate things IMO- they seemed quite belligerent on entry from what I could see.

Maybe then- maybe it is a necessity, rather that than Bubble matches between both sides. 10-20 mins of holdback could calm the issue a bit.

Yeah true- agree in general terms with this.

An announcement on the day say or even on the final whistle could be asking for trouble if they left it that late IMO, don't get away all that often but tbh IIRC do Millwall do holdbacks? Think I remember in 2018 maybe. Got to try and mitigate against/prevent the risks of trouble wherever possible.

If football fans could behave then the thousands of pounds that will be wasted this Saturday on policing morons who just are ... morons ... could be spent better on eg. the NHS.  Why oh why is football plagued by idiots??  As for me ... maybe Melksham v Thatcham without a PC in sight ...

Looks like we are at around the 24k mark for Saturday. Football capacity just shy of 26.5k.

600 home tickets remaining, and 1900 empty seats in the Atyeo Stand gets us to around 24k.

cant see us selling 600 more tomorrow/Saturday but be great if we could get a home sell out.

The back four rows in w4/w5/w6 are always the last to go on sale and they are not yet on sale - they haven't been sold just not available yet until all others have been sold.

I think there are around 1200 still to be sold.

23k max I reckon, unless there is a surge tomorrow (at up to £42 I doubt there will be).

Imagine working all week to then spend one of your two days off watching “Melksham vs Thatcham”. I’d sooner piss on an electric fire than go and watch that.

Started extra early on the name calling today then ?

If you could actually read (Ask your daughter to help) you’d see that Swamp states football fans are ‘morons’ and then explains he will be attending Melksham on Saturday

Apologies if that’s so difficult to understand

(Janet & John from your library May be of help to you )

jumping in like a Church bell..... whoops

Absolute nonsense, ever been around Bath / Gloucester / Exeter rugby supporters after a game?

The most arrogant and obnoxious bunch of people I have ever had the misfortune to be around

As for footy fans, plenty of Argyle and City supporters enjoyed the train home last Saturday from Stoke with no problems!

May be a time to get your head out of your arse and actually acknowledge what is going on around you

He won't reply mate.

He's a coward as well as a giant arsehole, happy to come along with his vacuous provocations but won't engage with anyone who pulls him up on his bullshit.

A very stupid man doing bad impression of an intelligent one imo.

Non league football is always good fun, much less stressful than City that’s for sure!

Hopefully, the fine weather might be enough to tempt a few to snap up the last 600 tickets.  Also, is it not possible to sell a few in the Atyeo with a little provision for segregation? I do hate seeing that stand half empty.

Expect the club just haven't released all the tickets available in the upper Lansdown yet, I suspect that there will be more than 600 seats unsold

Atyeo set up wont change this season
