Cheers. I assume it will be too late for anyone to get a county call-up if they’re dropped. I can’t see Overton/Leach playing for Somerset tomorrow if they miss out.

Yep selfishly hoping C'Overton gets dropped but then again the ECB will probably say he needs a rest.

Steve Smith mocks Jack Leach by wearing glasses

STEVE SMITH mocked Jack Leach during Australia's victory celebrations at Old Trafford.

The Aussie players and staff returned to the pitch dressed in their whites and with beers about two hours after they completed their Ashes-clinching win.

Nathan Lyon gave a speech on the outfield, which included a foul-mouthed rant about the press.

Then he invited Smith, 30, into the middle of the team huddle - and the run machine wiped a pair of glasses, put them on and shadow batted left-handed to much laughter from his pals.

The former Aussie captain was clearly taking the mick out of England's bespectacled spinner Leach, who scored one not out at Headingley to help the hosts win two weeks ago.

During England's own celebrations in Leeds, Leach replicated his run in the middle, with the video going viral.

So this was the Aussies getting their own back, with shouts of "no ball" and "come back Smithy" also heard, in reference to when Leach dismissed Smith in the first innings at Old Trafford but had overstepped.

Australia legend Glenn McGrath joined the side in their boozy celebrations outside as Lyon led a rendition of their team song, Under the Southern Cross.

Well we were a bit unlucky on the weather front- we lost a decent amount in the drawn Test and another session would have made it 2-2, but Australia found a way to win and forced it. Merited it.

Hope it is 2-2.

Tbh Steve Smith has been the difference- both sides had good bowling but flaky batting coming in, he's been in ridiculous form.

I can see Curran coming in for Overton for the final test. I would've liked to see Roy removed and Sibley added but, given the quick turnaround, it makes sense to keep the squad the same.

Not sure why you would keep Bairstow yet drop Buttler?

Because Bairstow is a better test batsman than Buttler

Curran and Woakes in for Roy and Overton.

Looks like Stokes will bat at 4 as he's unable to bowl.

Assume Denly & Burns to open.

Wouldn't it be nice if selectors and coaches paid for their mistakes in the same way that players do? Roy gets binned off after a failed experiment that wasn't really his fault, yet who's carrying the can for the selection? No doubt Ed Smith will be sat grinning inanely as usual, with no accountability.

No great surprise. The previous pitch suited Overton and Curran will be playing at his home ground

Righto, Joe.

Yeah and if Stokes hadn’t played the innings of his life it would be 3-0 🙄

Stokes as a specialist batsman- could free him up.

Let's not forget too, the one Test we did win and the one we drew, but nearly won, Smith wasn't playing- he's been the difference tbh. In two sides currently often with good bowling but flaky batting, he's been ridiculous! The positions in the game, on the scoreboard he has come in at too- worth revisiting.

They're talking about is there motivation in the team? I would hope so to not be the first England team to lose the Ashes on home soil since what 2001?

Anyone know who is replacing Gower ?

Personally I think Gower presents and glued it all together very well

and no more Beefy ?

WTF ?

Can see Gower going onto TMS. Hopefully this doesnt mean more Nick Knight! I expect Ian Ward will take over.

I’ll be honest -

My big fear is a female presenter

The only name I saw mentioned was Rob Key being more involved in the test matches.

I fully expect a female presenter to be brought in too - her name escapes me but has a double barrel surname

Not Alison Mitchell then ?

Thought they may make her the presenter

In fairness she’s the best of the women IMHO

Id keep Gower and the current team personally

I cannot stand Nick Knight!

‘Good catch, in the end’

‘Good shot, in the end’

‘Good drinks break, in the end’

Aghhhhhhh!!

Best combined XI is pretty straightforward, only toss up is Paine or Bairstow and Woakes or Leach.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/49556863

The other nine pick themselves on the averages:

Burns

Denly (surprisingly)

Smith

Root

Labuschange

Stokes

Archer

Cummins

Hazlewood

Yeah the 'best XI' really does emphasise how much Steve Smith has won this for them, I only had 4 aussies in my side (Smith, Labuschange, Hazelwood and Cummins) went with Leach in a very, very close call, half the wickets in half the tests but a better average then Lyon

I would have Paine just because I dislike Bairstow and their averages are pretty similar, but other than that I totally agree. Also a shame that Labuschange (who I had never heard of) came in and did very well. Some of the other Aussie batters averages are appalling.

To think people bagged the England Football team this week😂. This cricket lot literally aren’t fit to wear the shirt.....as gutless an outfit as has ever represented this country.

Went to the game today which was my first Ashes experience. Quite an interesting day with England winning the first session but things declining after lunch before the two Taunton boys rescue England. Hopefully Buttler can take us past 300 tomorrow so we can finish on a reason score. Leach definitely deserves a shout out this series. He honestly looks more comfortable with the bat than all of our top order bar Burns.

And Jack. Again.

I would seriously have him 9 ahead of Jofra whose showed no stickability with the bat. Allow the batter, in this situation Jos, the confidence to know that someone will stick with them

The way we bat he will be up to 5 in no time.

Jofra claims he can bat, he is awful.. should be staring at number 11 at best . . .

Crazy decision from Buttler. No need for that

First class average of mid 20s I think so he can definitely bat
