BP site is awful. Here is the commentary of the pre match conference.

Quote

That's all from LJ

There was some nice stuff on Tammy Abraham but it’s embargoed until Saturday so you’ll have to wait for that particular line!

15:50

LJ on the prospect of going top

It’s early days, you’re not really thinking about that. I don’t think we’re going to win or lose anything apart from the points that are on offer.

15:49

LJ on Stoke

I think Stoke, their squad is up there with the best in the league. I knew it would be a tough game up there.

It’s sorcery how they’ve only got one point in the league so far.

15:48

LJ on Joe Morrell

The pathway is there for Joe. I like him, he’s a really good player. At one point it looked like he might not have had a career but we asked Cheltenham to take him because we knew once he got in the door he’d make the most of it.

He would have been frustrated he didn’t get more games (last season).

Jamie McCombe has taken charge at Lincoln and I’m in regular contact with him mainly cos he’s a mate but also I’m interested to know how Joe’s doing.

Delighted with the Wales call-up, especially as a few years ago it looked like he was going out to America to be part of the college scene.

15:44

Selection dilemmas

We’ve got a lot of decisions. Callum signed his new contract, that changes the mindset a bit. The Likes of Sammie Szmodics and Pereira have been excellent in training.

The competition is strong. In training, people have been performing very, very well. The lads that are playing know they can’t rest on their laurels.

15:42

LJ on Kalas

No, he’s going to be a bit longer. We don’t want to rush that one. He’s going to get re-scanned to see if the tear has decreased, as it should have done.

15:41

LJ on injuries

Bailey Wright is back in training. Adam (Nagy), we will test Friday. He’s still a bit thick around the ankle but he is on the mend.

15:37

More on Cooper

First signs are good, he’s got the team playing well - the Swansea way if you like.

There are a few now (young English coaches). It’s a great league, he’s going to learn so much from playing against the foreign managers and the different problems and influences that they bring.

It’s the best league in the world to competitively have to learn the 1% to get wins.

15:36

LJ on Steve Cooper

They’ve been excellent. I’ve known Coops for quite a while, we were on a leadership course together.

He’s making us all look like fools - one month in the job and he’s manager of the month!

15:35

Lee's up

The head coach is in the chair

15:29

That's all from Williams

LJ will be up imminently

15:28

Ashley Williams on Veganism

I started it two years ago. It came about after I watched a documentary ‘what the health?’ I just felt that I had more energy and didn’t need a nap in the afternoon like footballers often do. In terms of athletes it works for us. I feel better for it now than when I did at Everton. I can’t say it’s for everyone but it works for me.

15:23

Working up to full fitness

When I first signed, we earmarked Stoke as a game to be available to be play so we had two weeks to work on my fitness.

Then Kalas got injured so that made an opening for a centre-half.

So in that two weeks I made a point of getting as much fitness in my legs and my lungs.

15:21

LJ's comparison with Brendan Rodgers

I can see where you’re coming from with that but I don’t like to compare people.

The way he goes about his working day, with his attention to detail, the way he encourages and provides such a nice environment to work.

It does bear similarities to Brendan Rodgers.

15:20

Working with Lee Johnson

Having spoken to the gaffer that week, it was more he needed to see me a bit. I was saying I was in shape but he wanted to see me.

He’s been really respectful of me, my age, and he left it open that both sides would suss it out and then we’d come to a decision.

I came up to the Derby game - a brilliant win - and then we spoke all week.

15:19

Why choose Bristol City

There’s a few lads in the dressing rom: Walshy from Everton, Benik from last season, Marley Watkins from Wales, Tommy Rowe from my Stockport days.

For me, it was what the gaffer’s built here, the culture and the way they go about it.

It’s a young team and they’ve got big ambitions and when I spoke to the manager on the phone I knew that’s where I want to be.

It’s a young team not that many older players and maybe my presence would be welcome in the dressing room.

15:14

Whether he got an offer from Swansea this summer

No, not really. Not that I knew about

15:14

Williams on early fixtures ...

You couldn’t make it up, it’s strange and interesting. Especially with my early game against Stoke, all those familiar faces. But why not, try and get up and running as soon as possible

15:13

Early jokes

Fielding a question from BBC Wales, Williams jokes, “I thought I had got away from you lot”

15:12

Ashley Williams on life at City

I’ve enjoyed my first few weeks, and obviously it’s about trying to get as much fitness as I can

Or is it more likely to be about some disagreement / upset on our behalf regarding Tammy joining them on loan instead of coming back to us?

Suppose it could be something to do with this - were we ever seriously in for him that season though? IIRC he went back to Chelsea and got a decent wage hike, and they quite fairly wanted to try him in the Prem. Not sure how controversial LJ could get around that subject?

My guess:

The question was about Tammy having played for both clubs. LJs answer contained some or all of the following points:

- Enjoyed time with us

- Didn’t feel it went well at Swansea

- Given the choice, would have stayed here another year and not gone to Swansea

- Tammy is still in contact with LJ

- Tammy has said to LJ/ via Kasey or similar that he wants us to go up/beat Swansea on Saturday

The only reason it would be embargoed until Saturday is if it could be a motivational factor for Swansea, however small. Preferring us to them and hoping we win/saying he thinks we’ll win falls squarely into that category

By all accounts we did still have some hopes of getting him back despite it being Chelsea’s wishes for him to try it in the Prem that season.
